A collection of 28 micro improvisations from the now sold out no rent tape release titled ‘Gagu’. Recorded in Yogyakarta, Indonesian five years ago with Lucas Abela (Justice Yeldham, Australia)Rully Shabara (Senyawa / Zoo, Indonesia) and Ramberto Agozolie (Zoo, Indonesia). The Gagu (meaning mute in Indonesian) session was initially set up as a collaboration between Abela and the Indonesian punk band Zoo but unfortunately (or not considering the results) the remaining two members of Zoo were not able to attend. So the glass/vocals/drums trio forged on and laid down these twenty-eight frenetic tracks that bridge between, free jazz, dadaesque poetry and abstract noise.

A tribute i recorded for Sean Baxters wake

He was family to pretty much all experimental musicians in Australia and beyond and loosing him is devastating as I can’t think of anyone with his ability to encourage and mentor us to beehive we can be and do better at times when I considered giving up this game seams enthusiasm helped me see that what I did however marginal was appreciated and to keep at it there is a huge hole now in our community that I fear can’t ever be filled I love you Sean stay brutal.

What kind of government would send a lunatic artist, whose idea of self expression is smashing amplified glass against his face, off to China to become a cultural ambassador? Australia the lucky country of coarse! That's exactly what happened to Lucas Abela (Justice Yeldham) and this album, Mrs Rice is it's result. With under two months in Beijing he formed the pick up band Rice Corpse, (named after the Chinese character for shit, which itself is the combination of the two characters for corpse and rice), jammed with them four times (two off which were recorded for this album) before heading off for a ten city tour of China.

A Trio of glass, drums and piano was in Lucas's minds ear when he arrived and two completely different musicians came forward to form this unlikely band. First to be recruited for drums was Yang Yang whose antics in his own band Mafeisan has given him the reputation of being the craziest exponent of the normally conservative Beijing scene. His ultra loud out and proud personality is in stark contrast to the mild mannered and brutally shy saxophonist Li Zenghui who came to the project as pianist, cause simply put there were no suitable pianists in the city.

Australian Oz Rock Classics as Interpreted By American Song Poem Companies. (2010)

American Song/Poems companies have exisited for decades, basically song sharks who prey on amateur lyricists, exploiting their ambition to break into the music business. Under the guise of a co-writing ‘partnership’, they will hastily arrange accompanying music to basically any lyrics sent in, for a fee! pitting the naivety of aspiring song writers from across North America with bored overworked sweatshop musicians.

Although their heyday was throughout the 50's 60's and 70's Incredibly I discovered these companies still exist to this day so I decided to hear what they would come up with if i presented them with some of Australia's biggest hits that failed to chart in America. So i pretended these lyrics as my own sending them lyrics to two companies, Magic Key in Utah and The Nashville Song Service in Tennessee, asking them to compose music for them.

What's been described as "a trumpet player trapped in a two dimensional universe" is in fact the unique work of Lucas Abela aka Justice Yeldham, a maverick musician with an unhealthy obsession with sheets of broken glass. In his now infamous show which has astonished and bemused countless people in over 45 countries, Abela ecstatically purses his lips against panes of amplified glass whilst deftly employing various vocal techniques ranging from throat singing to raspberries, to turn the discarded shards into crude musical instruments. The results are a wild array of oddly controlled cacophonous noise teetering on the edge of music. This one of a kind act re-defines the expression 'don't try this at home' and quite simply needs to be witnessed to be fully appreciated, let alone understood.
