I love Lucent's versatility with his productions and after a very techy house release on My Techno Weighs A Ton, good friend and party guy Lucent returns with a UK bass vibed single. To make this release really stand out in the bass scene, we got remixes by DJ Karnak (aka R1 Ryders) and big drum specialist Morcee.

Lucent has got his hands on many things, producing ghetto club jams, big bass monsters and even minimal techno, so it's pretty hard to pigeonhole this lad. Very fun guy for late nite Skype sessions too. With releases on Trouble&Bass, Four 40, Bosphorus and My Techno Weighs A Ton, his back catalogue covers many tastes. A very productive person we're talking right here, MTWAT family in effect, just how we do.

DJ Karnak (aka R1 Ryders) has consistently produced some of the most bass-centric tracks to come out of London’s underground club scene. His tracks are constantly played by DJ’s across the board like Toddla T, Mary Anne Hobbs, Mistajam, Benji B, B. Traits, Sinden and Ikonika. Growing up in London as an avid music collector Karnak cites London’s Jungle and Garage scenes as key influences on his sound, and it’s no surprise that the likes of La Roux, Major Lazer and The Count & Sinden have enlisted his skills for remix duties.

Morcee is a London-based DJ and producer. His sound is hard to pinpoint, even on a production level Morcee’s sound shies away from traditional patterns and structure, genre defying but with an obvious homage to his roots. Without a preoccupation for vintage synths and hardware, Morcee's "less is more" production style carries through every stage of the creative process. He’s been supported by some of the UKs biggest names: Mary Anne Hobbs, Oneman, Brackles, 16Bit, Foamo and many more.

This one came to our attention via Jamie from Tomb Crew, who has been ruffing up the dance and the airwaves with “Ripper” for some months now. After we couldn’t get that one out of our DJ box, we called up young Lucent in cold, rainy Liverpool and asked what else he had sitting over there on his hard drives.

The resulting EP contains four fun, fresh, and lively tracks that make perfect DJ tools—full of catchy, loopy hooks and big bad basslines. We hadn’t been able to find anything like these tracks for our DJ sets in some time; clever riddims that mix with everything, full of peak-time flavor and falling somewhere in between fidget, electro-house, and funky while not being any one genre at all.

Lead track “Ripper” is a scissoring slice of grimey 4/4—like a shark attack when it hits the club speakers. “Hype Trak” swaggers up and down the low-end scale and keeps the dancefloor running hot. “Run It Back” is a perfect builder, while “Jux” rounds things out with plenty of bouncy personality and a tropical drum feel. Go get some!
