Community Radio Tbilisi presents a monthly radio show A Beautiful Staircase in an Abandoned Building (ABSAB) by Ben Tupper, that explores the soundtracks of video games across various genres and console platforms. Each month, ABSAB features cuts of video game soundtracks curated around various cultural themes and selected by a guest artist with an affiliation for or working within video game culture. Video game soundtracks can be particularly unique in how they generate associations between memory, space and affect. With these associations in mind, ABSAB aims to provide a platform where guests and listeners can use the collected musical fragments of virtual worlds to explore the ‘real’ phenomena of our material world.

First Crush - Dhangsha lets loose with an Ottobit bitcrusher and Acidbox filter. Near noise saturation without totally relinquishing the rhythm. Bass and Noise are NOT at odds with each other - you can express simultaneously on all frequencies.

Anything to do with crisps (especially Tyrells) gets our resounding support here at OTO. Two of the most mischievious experimentalist in our community - Louie Rice & Luciano Maggiore - share with us an extended piece cyborg text piece that acts as an instructory rhythmic prompt to munch on the salty snack. Florian Hecker has experimented with similar computer voicings before, but there's not quite anything comparable to this gloriously dry, candid and obscene opus. Concrete poetry for the flaccid digital age (and for fans of crisps).

"58 minutes of music assembled using recordings of an online digital voice synthesiser reciting an exhaustive list of permutations of the words NO PA PA ON. Pauses in speech are punctuated with a bass tone and could act as a prompt to eat a crisp.

NO PA / PA ON is a performance series that started in Cafe OTOs project space and is often mispronounced."

Commissioned for BBC Radio 4 Short Cuts episode 'Miniatures’. On theme with the episode the piece features some of the tiniest sounds I’ve ever recorded. These include limpets eating, hoverflies making some incredible synth-like drones while resting on my microphones, a conversation between some ants and hydrophone recordings of aquatic plant photosynthesis.
