London label La bonne musique kicks off 2022 with ‘Validity Effect’ by American DJ & Producer Akumen. Co-founder of Los Angeles event series and radio show Made to Move, Akumen has cut his teeth in the local scene curating parties featuring DJs from Southern California and abroad. Having self-released most of his previous work, he now drops the high octane, four-track techno EP ‘Validity Effect’ on emerging London imprint La bonne musique. 

‘Bounce in My Mind’, the 808 driven dancefloor weapon that opens the EP, sees Akumen deliver a hypnotic stomper rife with rhythm. 

The fast-paced, dubby synths of ‘Processing Fluency’ follows with similar energy with an added layer of acid sprinkled on top before the EP’s title track drops it down a notch with fast-paced, distorted synth lines over rolling snares. 

Drawing its inspiration from the psychological concept of the same name, ‘Validity Effect’ explores repeated instrumentation, drums, and 303 sequencing switched up across all four tracks to deliver a varied, club-ready release.

To close out the EP Akumen takes us back to acid town with a 303 mix of ‘Validity Effect’, managing to create a culmination of the rest of the EP’s tonal qualities in what is set to be a certified dancefloor mover.

Stuck in Traffic is olliray’s first album. The story begins in 2017 with the release of BoxRox, a small electronic idea that became the spark for everything that followed. Over the next two years the music grew slowly and naturally in a small flat in South London. Most of the songs began as simple synth sketches that later opened into fuller pieces with piano, guitar and voice.

The title came from a real moment in late 2018. Olliray was waiting for his dad to arrive for lunch. His dad was stuck in traffic and the delay gave him an unexpected pocket of time. In that quiet stretch he recorded all the vocals for the title track in one take. When his dad finally arrived he played him the music and asked what he should call it. His dad smiled and gave the answer that became the name of the whole album.

Stuck in Traffic holds the feeling of that early period. Raw, instinctive and made by ear. A blend of electronic textures and intimate melodies shaped between 2017 and late 2018, and released in January 2019.

For fans of synthwave, retrowave and 80s inspired electronic music.

Worst Records' hall of fame welcomes new faces around the pool for a 13-stages enlightened drama. You'll meet again with the top 3 podium made of A Strange Wedding, Jacques Satre and Christian Coiffure, all rensponsible for our first three releases, building up a mesmerizing, out of season mental workout. Extending the dimension of trance towards Saint-Etienne, Del.Duc brings on a curious yet serene astral travel, and we can also count on the distant reinforcements from the Toulouse Gouffre Club crew with Jan Loup and her glitch spangled hazy dub from far futures and the new trance comer from Bordeaux, Lazuli.
Special friends are also gathering here, as Myako is sewing on thin fabric a vaporous dub in shades of grey, the one-and-only master touki Théo Muller delivers a cinematic remedy to confinement.
Liberation through hearing, it is, as borders explode with the presence of many : Yin Yang Audio in a transatlantic IDM/break jump, Forest on Stasys (aka Mental Resonance) and his tough shamanic dance, Clemens Friedrich slowing down all senses at once and JEANS, boss of Oracle Bones, speeding us up in the hyperloop.
Finally, as teamwork means a lot, we have given the pleasure to open this compilation to the four-headed Lausanne/Freiberg hydra 4POTR and their cryptic transdimensional message, and the honor of closing this pool party to the 404 trio gem from Candoblé with a fine piece of wonder.

Not exactly your usual summer compilation, nor the hits you could imagine, but surely the music you'll need under the hot sun of 2020.
