I dreamt that the soil spoke to me in a million voices. Taught me secrets in a language I did not understand. Etched sacred words onto my flesh and handed me a bullet laced with curses to fire at the head of the monster wrapping its tongues around the world and sucking it dry. I took the bullet, loaded it into a chamber, aimed at its slobbering mouth. I fired. And I missed.
