DEAD FRIENDS

Upon arrival, I am faced with malaise in all respects. Guts spilled in a gutter for your cause that’s left obscured. My aim is to recant all my beliefs, but how can I put aside my passions if each and every time I wake I am forced to stagger through the darkness less a torch? Writing to a family that for all intents and purposes is dead. Praying to a god that left my friends imbued with lead. Others may take comfort in the words of talking heads, but I am not convinced and will not be pacified. I must come to terms with our naivety, and our demise. It’s a familiar air of falsehood. Upon acceptance, I’m encased in an amber shell and chased down like liquor in the belly of this beast of burden. It aches like antiseptics sting, and it rings in my ears when they mount their shattered limbs in slings. Oh, how the screaming never wanes - entrenched and condemned with nothing but our youth to blame. There’s a familiar air of falsehood to my dreams, echoing through the spectral halls of history. Beloved end.
