This is a song by my first teenage band Cyclone in which I played lead guitar and sort of tried to sing. Or, as James Hetfield once put it, 'yelled in key'. I wrote it somewhere late 1994 and it ended up on 'Sonic Obliteration Vol. I', a compilation album released by Canadian label Utopian Vision Music. Pretty cool! At the time, I was listening to bands such as Metallica, Megadeth and Alice in Chains a lot and I remember wanting to write a tune in that same vein. There's also some baroque/classical influences, a heritage from my classical guitarplaying years as a kid. Even though I was 17 years old back then, I still think this song has something special to it. There are a few moments I'm still proud of from a compositional point of view. So since the 20th anniversary of this song is approaching (wow, time flies!), I decided to upload it. Ah well, we all get a little nostalgic every now and then, don't we? ;-)
This was recorded at a studio called RS29 in Waalwijk, The Netherlands on march 11, 1995 by Oscar Holleman, a quite well known musician/producer (Vengeance, Gorefest, among many, many others). We actually used the same drum triggers as Gorefest-drummer Ed Warby on their 1994 'Erase' album. 
Funfact: since we were too young to drive, we had to be transported to the studio by one of our parents. Halfway there, guitarist Bart discovered he left his guitar at home (Yes, really). So we had to turn around... Was his dad happy...!
Cyclone disbanded after three years in late 1995, due to - of course - 'artistic arguments'. But it sure was a fun ride and we learned a lot. Your first band will always stay special, no matter what.

CYCLONE - Down Under (1995)

This is a tune I wrote some years ago in collaboration with guitarplayer Edwin Kosters. I met him through the Dutch online guitar community gitaarnet.nl. Even though our styles are quite different, they seemed to work out together. So we jammed a few times at his and my place and eventually recorded two songs together. I 'guested' on one of his as well. Some parts of this song were written during recording or improvised on the spot, since it wasn't finished. It turned out a cool tune I think and it reminds me of the fun we had. We might do something again together in the future.

This is a jam rather than a song, it came together after I purchased a sevenstring guitar. Wanted to write something for the sake of it. Kinda like it though.

This was actually the first ever instrumental guitar tune I wrote, back in 1997 or 98. This is - finally - a decent recording of it. Me and my friends used to hang out on sundays, going to the beach, bringing a football and just goof around. It's where the title and inspiration for the song came from.

I really enjoy making music with my daughter Emma, she's a great singer and a huge Ariana Grande fan. I've come to appreciate Ari very much myself, she has some great songs and an incredible voice obviously. Really dig the r&b-vibe to this one :) I think Emma did a very good job, I'm a proud dad!
