Supermoll Radio #17 - Marc Lansley (Low Hanging Fruit) / Ludwig Zibell

One of Cologne's longest running party series is about to end this month: The "TOTAL CONFUSION". Starting in 1998 as a project by TOBIAS THOMAS, Michael Mayer and Ralph Christoph it quickly began to influence the club scene in Cologne. Within these 16 years several generations of electronic music found their home.

LUDWIG ZIBELL had a long talk with Tobias about how everything came into being. After that we hear a recording of Tobias Thomas playing at another very important series for electronic music in Cologne, the E'DE COLOGNE festival that takes place annually for the Christopher Street Day.

Nicole Wegner is one of the curator-bookers at the infamous Baustelle Kalk and Gold&Beton in Cologne. Both venues rank among the most precious underground gems of the city. What many people might not now, is that Nicole is also a passionate DJ herself, who combines electronic clash, singer songwriter pop and utterly distorted noise rock.

Being a Cologne based DJ himself for nearly 20 years he has experienced many developments in the scene and in his personal style. Leo first got heavily into electronic music back in ’07 through Cologne's then vibrant Drum'n'Bass-scene. Raised on a healthy diet of Jungle, DnB and early Dubstep, his urge to share contemporary music found an outlet via radio shows on the city's student radio station Kölncampus. Hosting on air weekly for various DJs, it was there that he developed interest in mixing vinyl himself. Around that time artists like Martyn, Boddika or Scuba paved the way for a slow transition from breakbeats into 4/4-territory. Today his bass music roots are still audible, yet Leo selects from across the board, ranging from dusty disco-edits to analog lo-fi house to gritty warehouse techno. Weaving together those various sonics is a red thread of grainy atmosphere, of sounds with haptic and texture, of limping rhythms and hazy moods that always seem a bit blurred. His own club night DOB aims to facilitate that spectrum as well, inviting unknown local talent and like-minded vinyl lovers. Being a bearer of the groove by all means, you will find Leo bopping on the floor just as much as in the booth.

Ewan Pearson. A man of many talents: Grand-master of tight disco edits. Producer since two decades with countless remixes for e.g. Goldfrapp, Ladytron, Depeche Mode, Moby and the Pet Shop Boys just to name a few. Co-author of the book "Discographies" with Jeremy Gilbert... And just a damn nice guy!

We had him over in August for our SUPERMOLL 03 release night at Gewölbe in Köln and pressed record just in time. Enjoy.
