Christian Cambas is back and celebrates his return with an original track on one of his favorite labels.

Keeping things totally subliminal with a haunting melody and an apocryphal vocal snippet, we are kept locked in via the pulsating bass and commanding synths that seem to have been programmed in some kind of dismal future.

A remix from label boss T78 was essential to this release, and the original has been completely flipped on its head, with a big surprise halfway through, as only he knows how. Another brother-in-arms from the other side of the pond is up next, and of course we are talking about Durtysoxxx who based his version on the synth progressions and provided the heads-down vibe of the package.

UK duo Drumsauw seal the deal with a spacious mix, letting their rendition breathe effortlessly while keeping the production crystal clear.

We program the time machine to take us to 1999 with this new EP from INVŌKER. Based in Paris, the Frenchman specializes in nuanced melodic electronica that delivers absorbing rhythmic energy, cerebral enchantment and spiritual alignment all at once. This four-tracker sees him move through a variety of moods, while holding true to his distinct sound from start to end, while DC Salas steps up for remix duties.

Starting with ‘1999’ transports the listener back in time, with 808 cowbells, squelchy warehouse hoover sounds and reverbed vocal clips emanating a retro feel. Emotive pads and crisp beats interact playfully as the main thrust of the track pushes things forward. Eventually we move into the second half, where a fizzing main riff is juxtaposed with the smoother elements of the track to great effect.

Next is ‘Drainer’, a creepy audio excursion with a darker feel and a more po-faced outlook. The low end oscillates with potency as instructions from a command center are uttered in the background. It’s like the soundtrack to a space battle, with galactic fighters lined up ready to leave the mothership...

With ‘Nami (Midnight)’ INVŌKER takes us straight into the interplanetary funk inviting us to a cosmic disco. A simple, bright melody is the main hook as whiplash effects and mesmerizing atmospherics guide us into an energizing breakdown. This one will whisk you away from your every- day life into a place of deep consciousness and awareness.

Lastly, DC Salas steps up for a rework of ‘Drainer’. His remix enters the nu-disco with heavy hitting beats and a captivating, moody b-line. Salas adds in plenty of emotion and the progression is excellent, as the track goes through three different stages.

The overall concept of this EP named “in times of disbelief” is inspired by the incredible changes in the world of the last months. People are fearful, governments are in crisis and the world has come to a stop, all these changes feel surreal and put many people in a state of distrust. The tracks are the base of these feelings and concepts. 

The first track named “Out of Sync” follows a strong arpeggiated mono synth line which goes in and out of sync constantly. The track follows a steady groove and gets opened in the big break down by an 8 chord progression leading into a big euphoric synth space. Then followed by a big unison polysynth which almost sounds like a guitar, playing an arp which is also changing in speed and synchronization. Then finally gets back to the main groove and follows this on steadily. 

The second track named: “What are you waiting for” is just like the first track along, emotive techno track which moves from a strong and powerful beat to emotive chord progressions. The overall slow buildup and repetitive melody make this something special, which could be lifting a room of dancers to a new level. A perfect closing set end track as Rose would call it. 

The Third track named “Lies” is somewhat slower on the energy and induces a darker feeling. The piano chords give the track rose’s signature. The track slowly builds to a climax where the synth line changes to some sort of Arabic tone ladder. The heavy low end of this track gives you that “oomph” feeling we all like so much in Techno.

Here we go with the last release of the year. Even though this year was pretty harsh for the electronic music scene, we can still be quite satisfied with our 2020 results. 

We could release many quality melodic house & techno EP's and the year is not over yet.
