A2. MARIIIN - SHAPE THE FUTURE (PCLUB014)

After appearing on Acid Test’s 10 Year Anniversary compilation Patricia, aka Max Ravitz, debuts an EP on the label with Less Than 7, a collection of tracks that sits squarely in the club-focused end of the label’s output. Ravitz grew up in Chicago and has family roots in Detroit; these cities cultivated his affinity for mid-western dance music, with early Trax Records being a standout favorite. Years later, while living in New York, collaborator Alexis Georgopoulos introduced Ravitz to Tin Man’s Neo Neo Acid LP (released on Acid Test in 2012). This album struck a particular chord, impacting his creative vision for the Patricia project and setting him on the path towards a fruitful collaboration with Tin Man as Ociya (also released on Acid Test). 

After 2021's IDM-leaning Blue Ridge LP, the Less Than 7 EP marks Patricia's return to the dance floor. Here, Ravitz explores four dimensions of acid music, each track deploying that classic squelch to differing effect. Both tracks on the A side pack a gut punch. The almost industrial beat on ‘At A. Gallop’ stomps along under moody pads and dripping acid lines until, midway, new harmonies reveal fresh vistas. ‘Head Gap Width’ is the EP’s most direct statement, a bolt of dubby techno energy with gurgling acid bass and rhythmic Detroit stabs. The B side then shifts things to a more emotive plane. ‘Winding To The Side’ uses its 9 minutes to fully explore the harmonic interplay between its buoyant braindance acid lines, which are engineered to suspend the late morning dance floor in time. ‘Coffee Computer’ closes things out, with its detuned pads, walking acid bassline and child-like piano lending it a wistful air that falls between house and IDM. 

Less Than 7 was recorded at Ravitz’s home studio in Asheville, NC, and mastered by close friend Josh Bonati.

Optimo Music's Digital Dancefloor series returns with its 49th instalment, this time welcoming Trule boss Al Wootton for a two-tracker that's certified to cause destruction on the dancefloor. Having featured Al's music under his Deadboy alias back in the day on their “Dark Was The Night” mix CD, Optimo now bring him on board for two chuggy, dubbed out disco tracks that both unfold over the course of nine minutes. Laid down live in takes and using hardware synths and external processing, he explores a host of different genres that he's always held dear from post-punk and psychedelia to proto house and dub.

In just a few years, Neida has established himself as one of the rising stars of the French electronic music scene.

Thanks to notable releases on a diversity of European record labels (from Nehza Records to Maloca Records, including Bad Tips, Scuffed Recordings, Le Ciel Records…), the Bordeaux-based producer embodies a new wave of artists who are as comfortable in the studio as they are behind the decks. Neida, who feeds the USB sticks of many of his peers—as was the case with his rave anthem 'False Nostalgia,' which was played at numerous festivals and European clubs in 2023—also masters the art of the dancefloor. Drawing inspiration from the best (from the legendary virtuosity of Ben UFO to the technical prowess of Batu and the versatility of CCL), Neida looks to England for the sounds that define his style, blending sharp breaks, techno realms, pronounced basslines, and constant rhythmic play. 

His tracks and sets, balancing between frenzy and melancholy, reflect the musical eclecticism of his youth when he used to learn to drum. Seen at various festivals and major venues of French and European club culture, Neida also has a special connection with the Bordeaux-based IBOAT, where he is a resident. It is in this city, in the South-West of France, that he co-founded SUPER Daronne, a collective that has been stirring up Bordeaux's nightlife since 2017 and is also behind the Supercamp festival.

I was scrolling through youtube when i came across Mitch Saunders he just released his latest single Emotion Kicks, i quite liked the song and played it a bunch in the car on the way to work then thought it would be fun to remix it. after the first remix (remix 1) i still have ideas for what i could do and decided to run with making more remixes of the song (remix 2 and 3), also remixing another song of his Heroes Wall which is my personal Fav.
