Aproximación a lo indivisible (approximation to the indivisible) is based on the consideration about multiplicity and unity. Several texts in different languages, each associated with a different voice treatment, present different views on this idea. The first and main text, in Latin, is an excerpt from a 1663 letter from Baruch Spinoza to Lodewijk Meyer titled "about the nature of infinity." Spinoza explains how thought accesses the true nature of infinity by conceiving it as indivisible and unique while imagination grasps it under the aspect of the multiple and discontinuous. The second text is based on the poem Cycle de l'air (et du sang), of the poet Irène Gayraud. The text deals symbolic and metaphorically with the idea of multiplicity. The third one is a serie of prime numbers of Mersenne and perfect numbers, codified in a invented language based on a tetradecimal numeral system.

Varios textos en idiomas diferentes, asociados a un tratamiento de la voz distinto plantean diversas visiones sobre esa idea. Le premier texte, en latin, est un fragment d'une lettre datée de 1663, adressée par Spinoza à Lodewijk Meyer, et porte "sur la nature de l'infini". Spinoza explique que la pensée accède à la véritable nature de l'infini en le concevant comme indivisible et unique, tandis que l'imagination le perçoit de manière multiple et discontinue. Mehrere in verschiedenen Sprachen verfasste Texte, in denen die Stimmen jeweils unterschiedlich behandelt werden, eröffnen verschiedene Perspektiven auf dieses Thema. Der erste, lateinische Text ist der Haupttext; es ist ein Auszug aus einem Über die Natur der Unendlichkeit betitelten Brief, den Benedictus de Spinoza 1663 an Lodewijk Meyer schrieb. Darin legt Spinoza dar, wie das Denken sich der wahren Natur der Unendlichkeit annähert, indem es sie als unteilbar und einzigartig versteht, während die Vorstellungskraft sie unter dem Aspekt des Multiplen, Diskontinuierlichen begreift. Der zweite Text basiert auf dem Gedicht Cycle de l‘air (et du sang) der Dichterin Irène Gayraud. Dieser Text setzt sich symbolisch und metaphorisch mit der Vorstellung der Multiplizität auseinander. Der dritte Text besteht aus einer Reihe von Mersenne-Primzahlen und perfekten Zahlen, verschlüsselt in einer erfundenen, auf einem Tetradezimalsystem aufbauenden Sprache.

“Multiplicidad y relación” (multiplicity and relation) faces presents several ways of relating musical elements by changing their length, with the consequences that these changes have for the perception. Each movement has a different pattern that governs these length changes. The patterns governing these changes are the actual idea of the piece.
The key aspect of my language at the time of writing “multiplicidad y relación” lied in this frantic contrast of various musical ideas forming a new one.

5 ideas de estructura disociada (for Orchestra)

My music is based on the opinion that musical matter is a movement and a relation between elements and not a static object to be observed. It is this opinion that causes me to favor in my language the structural and syntactic aspects over the ones related to "color" or "sound". In my previous works, the temporality showed itself with a clear and predictable directionality. In “5 ideas de estructura disociada (Five Ideas of Dissociated Structure) I try to go beyond this model of directionality by dividing the work in five extremely concise parts, where every material is so brief that it causes its extremely concrete perception. The parts don’t blend into each other nor originate from each other, but rather, it’s intended that, basing on the nature of every idea, the order of the whole constitutes a necessary sequence of exact ideas. Thus, a structurally connected whole is reached (a fact that maybe also constitutes a model of directionality) and a mode of structural perception totally different to the one that I had used in my previous works.

Mi música se fundamenta en la convicción de que el material musical es un movimiento y una relación entre elementos y no un objeto estático que se observa, lo que me lleva a privilegiar en mi lenguaje los aspectos estructurales y sintácticos por encima de los tímbricos. En mis obras previas la temporalidad se mostraba con una direccionalidad clara y previsible. En “5 ideas de estructura disociada se intenta superar este modelo de direccionalidad dividiendo la obra en 5 partes extremadamente concisas, donde cada material es tan breve que obliga a una percepción mucho más concreta del mismo. Cada parte no transita hacia la siguiente, ni proviene de la anterior, sino que se busca que la naturaleza de cada idea haga que el orden que forma el conjunto de las mismas constituya una sucesión necesaria de ideas exactas. Así se logra un conjunto estructuralmente vinculado (hecho que quizás es también un modelo de direccionalidad) y un modo de percepción estructural diferente al que había utilizado en obras anteriores.

Compression Music is a full concert piece which deepens the very idea of sound. The piece raises the question of how the omnipresent current aesthetics of compressed sound in modern music (characterised by homogenising dynamics and the construction of a compact sound) can meet a classical music criteria based on opposing principles such as realistic acoustics, natural instrument colours and wide dynamic ranges.

The text of the piece is a reconstruction of a multitude of fragments of lyrics of pop songs that I liked when I was younger

Compression music es una pieza-concierto que plantea cómo la omnipresente estética actual de sonido comprimido, caracterizada por homogeneizar las dinámicas y construir un sonido compacto se enfrenta a un criterio y tradición clásicos basados en principios de acústicas realistas, timbres naturales y amplios rangos dinámicos.

El texto de la pieza es una reconstrucción de multitud de fragmentos de letras de canciones de música pop que me gustaban cuando era más joven.
