For its debut shellac recording, “Charleston” was actually the secondary title (listen at 1:08) to “Old Fashioned Love” in a medley of two from the 1923 Broadway musical comedy “Runnin’ Wild.”  The most popular 78 that year of the iconic 1920s song & dance was recorded one week later by the Arthur Gibbs band

The Ambassadors was one of several recording groups led by prolific studio conductor Louis Katzman during the 1920s and early ‘30s.

The original 78rpm single was issued on Vocalion B-14686 - Old Fashioned Love (Intro: “Charleston”) (Cecil Mack-James Johnson) by The Ambassadors, recorded in NYC October 3, 1923.
