Two years after his last release, Taipei producer Lujiachi returns in 2022 with Mantis, a new EP focused on heavy, percussion-driven tracks that roll out at around the 100 BPM mark. Each cut is tied together by snarling, fuzzed-out bass and metallic drum sounds, sounding like hard drum blaring out of a busted Marshall stack. In the brutal opener “Link,” sludge metal bass tones mingle with a reoccurring sample of labored breathing. Kick and snare are buffeted by all manner of glass-breaking and metal-smashing percussive noise, which threaten to tear the track apart yet somehow end up just making the groove even stronger. The title track begins with a crackle of distortion, announcing the arrival of a rumbling bassline that moves with a brash swagger echoing Lujiachi’s club edits of old school Taiwanese pop. As an eerily insectoid plucked synth figure stalks the high end, the kick locks into a 4/4 stomp to draw us to a lento violento-like conclusion.

Lujiachi’s peers in Taipei’s underground scene also contribute two remixes: psychedelic explorers Mong Tong transform “Link” into a launchpad for waves of pentatonic surf guitar, while emerging producer Sandy’s Trace retools the same track for maximum club pressure.

在音樂上我們嘗試不同的可能性，試著打破類型限制與規則，很多時候我們會搞砸，但每當我們完美抓到平衡的時候，是世上最美的事情之一。 

At Final, we strive to create new possibilities. While we screw up sometimes, when we get it right, it's pure magic. 

它帶給了我們希望與絕望，賦予痛苦與喜樂，但能因此碰到很多志同道合的朋友，人生本不就如此？ 

This pursuit brings us a lot of hope, pain, and joy. But in this struggle, we are able to meet many like-minded friends and build a community. 

張合輯收錄了五位跟我們有著緊密關係的音樂人，代表FINAL的聲音，獻給台北。 

This compilation is dedicated to Taipei. Inside is the work of five artists who are very dear to us, and who represent the sound of Final.

「從來沒聽過那麼好聽的音樂。」這是粉絲們在臉書上給Lujiachi的評論，嚴格來說這並非誇飾。從帶有 Psychedelic 及 Progressive Rock 色彩的湯湯水水，到結合在地元素及實驗聲響的破地獄、LUDU，Lujiachi 的作品始終不落俗套。近期他的身影除了出現在電子音樂廠牌 Over my body、Final 合輯中，他也在 DJ 台上持續帶給人們前所未聞的聆聽體驗；當你在舞池與他共處，你會驚豔於他在多種曲風間的精準切換，以及打破框架的 DJ 技巧，最終帶領你探索一趟充滿獨特性的旅程，他總能打造需要一點時間思考、沈澱的派對夜晚。這次我們很高興能邀請到 Lujiachi，與聽眾分享他近期的日常生活、創作靈感以及1個小時的 DJ SET。

"I've never heard music this good." This is how fans comment on Lujiachi’s work on Facebook, and strictly speaking, it's not an exaggeration. From his band "Sleaze (湯湯水水)'' that carries shades of Psychedelic and Progressive Rock, to music groups like "破地獄" and "LUDU" that blend local elements with experimental sounds, Lujiachi's creations have always been unique. 

Recently, not only has he been featured on electronic music labels "Over my body" and the collection from Taipei's iconic nightclub "Final", but he also continues to offer unprecedented listening experiences as a DJ. When sharing the dance floor with him, you'll be amazed by his precise transitions between various genres and his boundary-pushing DJ skills. He always manages to craft a party night that requires some reflection and introspection, leading you on a unique journey. 

We're delighted to have Lujiachi here to share his daily life, creative inspirations, and a one-hour DJ SET with our audience.

Absurd TRAX welcomes new solo EP by Lujiachi, one half of Taipei based psychedelic drone metal duo 破地獄 Scattered Purgatory.

Divergent to the band's tranquilizing soundscape, the EP’s acutely drastic rhythmic emphasis easily place itself into a separate sonic plateau, earning itself its entry into the techno space, while the overarching ritualistic and tribal ambiance remains in the equation, they precipitate in contextualizing an nerve-wrecking succession of laser-focused club banging sequences.

In his own words, Lujiachi described "this record can be regarded as the first definite presentation of my forays into electronic music. I used to be in a band, and this experience shaped my approach towards crafting this record. With each track, I would prepare the percussion, following which I would assume the role of the bassist, layering a bassline on top of the rhythm. I was a guitarist in the band that I played in, which meant that I was rather less involved in the duties of the rhythm section. This work, then, can be seen as a rhythmic experiment, a set of songs in which I tinker with aspects of music that are new to me.

(這張算是我個人玩電子音樂的第一張正式作品，我以前是玩樂團的，所以個人計畫在創作時是以一人樂團為概念，可能會先想像我自己是鼓手，會打怎麼樣的鼓，接著在換到貝斯手的身分把貝斯疊上去，總之都會先把節奏的部分完成。因為我以前在樂團中是吉他手，比較少參與到節奏的部分，現在就想要嘗試做一些以前沒試過的東西，就變成這些歌了。)"
