South London’s Benny L is coming off the back of his successful Walrus EP, also on Audioporn, as well as remixes for Mozez and Dub FX. On this latest release, he continues to explore new areas and new visions, taking you further into his take on the d&b sound.

Thunder starts off slowly, establishing itself with a silky, sliding synth line, with ominous sounds forming a background. The beats are rolling, the bass menacing, and the feeling one of compulsion to dance. Let Benny L take you into his world, of large soundscapes and urgent drums & bass. The producer keeps things tight, but with enough expression to put his point across. Destined for the dancefloor, Thunder is also considered enough for listening at home or on road. Essential new music from Audioporn and Benny L.
Bitter Sweet is a colossal, epic tune, which starts its journey with deep, space age bleeps, before building up. The delayed drop sees the bass come to the forefront – prepare to shock out once it hits. Humming away like some sort of futuristic helicopter, Benny then brings in some old skool samples and ringing cymbals. This one’s got it all, guaranteed anthem status. Capturing all that is good in terms of funk, attitude and appeal, Bitter Sweet is set the take the scene by storm. Benny keeps the flow into the second drop, with that bassline filling you up once again.

The forthcoming LP from The Clamps and Kosen Productions isn’t just a collection of records which the French artist has spent months perfecting. It’s also a colossal look into the soundscape which such a high-calibre artist has at their disposal. Stretching across fifteen tracks, between drum & bass and garage, The Clamps focuses around the insanity that is stretching itself across the contemporary world and how he’s helped to define this sonically through each one of his records. There’s also a host of sci-fi inspired cuts which add to the LP’s explosive themes. From the already revealed record ‘LHS 1140b’, with a name that’ll resonate for any space fans, right through to the hard-hitting throws of ‘End of an Era’, there’s a taste to suit every palette throughout every expertly composed record. 

After already setting an enviable standard with the undeniably heavyweight standards on tracks like ‘Looking for Trouble’ alongside the notorious Nuklear MC, standalone offerings such as ‘Mankind’ and ‘30a #3a-23 Happiness’ peddle an unforgettable level of engineering whilst also pushing through a cinematic backdrop. Then a range of collaborations follow in their wake, including ‘Astronauts’ alongside Impak, as well as Snotrocket for ‘Friends in the Hood’. Merikan also joins the fray with ‘Fast Way’. 

The pace is continued to be set with ‘Cattle Mutilation’, whilst Mizo and The Clamps join forces for the meticulously sequenced drums of ‘Time Pressure’. ‘Medina’ pulls you through its half-time madness whilst adding to the LP’s strident versatility, which is followed in quick succession by ‘Soul of the Abyss’ with its throbbing LFOs. The Clamps and NickBee then merge their collective talents for ‘Addicted’, with its more old-school underpinnings. ‘The First and the Last’ platforms the creeping atmospherics which characterises many pieces of The Clamps’ sonic artillery, whilst ‘End of an Era’ draws the album to a close on a cataclysmic breakdown which takes you deep into the belly of the beast. ‘End of an Era’ alludes to The Clamps’ hardcore roots, whilst paying homage to the new foundations he’s laid down through his new music and Kosen Productions.

Saxxon is part of a dynasty. Having left a trail of releases though labels such as Spearhead, AudioPorn and Natty Dub, we’re really please to welcome him back to V as we celebrate our 25th year with a stellar EP that perfectly showcases his sound in 2018. 

This 5-track release holds characteristics typical to Saxxon, drum-heavy, jazzy, and most importantly, the ability to tear up any dancefloor. Although tracks hold the distinctive ‘Saxxon’ sound, there’s more than enough to make each track unique. Shyun & Cruk - See It Our Way

French drum & bass producer The Clamps has become more and more of an identifiable force, with his forthcoming EP on veteran Prolix’s Trendkill Records quickening his pace to the top echelons. The Clamps production has often been an enviable trait, something which the artist has been refining over the past few years; this hasn’t gone unnoticed by the heaviest hitters within drum & bass, which is why he came under the radar of Prolix. And The Clamps fits well within Prolix’s growing arsenal of producers, something which the head honcho has also spent years refining. When it comes to the genre’s darker sounds, Trendkill is a go-to imprint, dominating both charts and DJ sets during its expansion. With a host of main-stay labels already ticked off by Prolix himself, it made sense for him to build a musical hub which highlighted the sounds influencing his own output.

Since the late 90s, The Clamps has spent his time pouring over the intricacies of everything from hard techno to drum & bass. After initially making a name for himself on homegrown label Kosen Production, he’s become more and more of a pivotal figure throughout the wider music circuit. Now having released on imprints such as Invisible, Titan, Eatbrain and Impact Music, his forthcoming ‘I Feel’ EP is a return to form, following the explosion of his ‘The Odyssey’ LP in 2018.

First track ‘No Reality’ creates an intro which is instantly encapsulating with its steppy instrumentals and patches of waif-like samples. Once it drops, through its pounding drum stabs, you’re taken directly into the belly of the best. Title-track ‘I Feel’ is just as chaotic, tearing through with robotic vocal interludes. ‘Mind Exploration’ runs through next, with an old-school reminiscing as you’re yet again released against its manic mechanics. ‘Interaction’ is the final track, foreboding as it begins to wheel you towards its first climatic breakdown. Each punching horn takes you in deeper before its sci-fi atmospherics leave you to its driving ferociousness.

Trendkill Records are back, with help from The Clamps - proving that the next year is titled to be one of their biggest yet.
