I recorded different pollinators and pollinator habitats in the Old Botanical Garden of Göttingen (Germany) and the forest around the city and used these sounds to make a song for the Pollinator Palette Project, by pollinator expert Gerrit Öhm based on these field recordings.

The sounds recorded for the pollinator song include both sounds from pollinators themselves as well as sounds from pollinator habitats. Pollinator sounds that can be heard are for example the sounds of bees, bumblebees and flies and a mixture of bees and wasps around an “insect hotel”. Pollinator habitats included are aquatic habitats (the sound of flowing water; aquatic habitats are a habitat for many hoverfly and mosquito species) and woodland (the percussion in the background, formed by multiple recordings of branches and sticks; many solitary bees and wasps, but also hoverflies use the deadwood of trees as larval habitat). Finally, humans are in the song, as well: A part of the buzzing is mixed with a bit of vocals. In a break, you hear a mower – which can destroy pollinator habitats but is also essential to care for valuable habitats such as species rich meadows.
