Classicworks show no sign of slowing down- and their latest release,is perhaps their most high energy statement to date. Label boss Nehuen and frequent Classicworks collaborator Nick Hook join forces on this EP for an unrelenting, dancefloor-directed homage to the hard house productions of labels such as Underground Construction and Dance Mania,infused with the playfulness and sophisticated production trickery for which these two are now notorious.

'How Y'all Feeling' opens the A-side, matching steamroller sized kick drums against drug-activating vocal samples, crisp 909 hi hats and claps, punctuated by intense funk stabs and wavy analogue synth breakdowns.

'Work This Pussy' sees the EP step up in velocity, where minimal melodies play against some serious, speaker pumping kicks, playful toms and cheeky vocal cut ups that wouldn't sound out of place on a DJ Funk mixtape.

Complimenting the B-Side is fellow label head Cardopusher's 'E-rave '93' Remix of 'How Y'all Feeling', which strips back the four to the floor pummel of the original to an early 90's jungle / hardcore shuffle.

Aah, the breakbeat, the very foundations on which the British underworld of dance music was built upon, takes it rightful place once again, and Will Azada royally plunders the spirit of the rave scene on his opening track, ‘Mysterious White Powder’.  The Tennessee based producer & DJ locks into the early UK sound on his ‘Proper Traxx’ EP, and debut offering for Hypercolour.

On the flip side, the theme continuous on ‘Let’s Get Tight’, all heavyweight stabs and knarly 909 drums, whilst the gloriously titled ‘A Night In The Life Of Mr. Dirtbag McDiscopants’ plays a straight 4/4 beat, and attacking it with breathy vox stabs and rave horns, you’ll be transporting yourself back to Dreamscape circa 91 after you’re donw with this EP.

Third Ear drops five cuts from MGUN (Manuel Gonzales).  Harsh and abrasive, aching and reflective by turns, the grainy sound of this music creates an aura all its own as the sounds resonate and reverberate against each other in deliberately unpredictable ways.

Having first emerged on the Wild Oats release ‘Laygo My Faygo’ as part of NSNT PRJCT alongside Kyle Hall in 2010, Detroit’s Manuel Gonzales has gradually found his own voice.  Resurfacing under the MGUN banner, Gonzales made an intensely rewarding full debut on Hall’s label with the cavernous deconstruction of techno that was ‘Harmnear’, and has subsequently struck alliances with some of the UK’s more interesting labels like Semtek’s Don’t Be Afraid who released ‘The Upstairs Apt EP’ and Will Bankhead’s The Trilogy Tapes with ‘The Near Future EP’.

On the A-side of his latest release ‘Extort’ is raw abrasive techno with subtle bass tunings and insistent skittering sonics rattling around the top of the soundscape.   ‘Mean While’ inhabits the same environment but seems to be slightly removed from the havoc.  Rather than the insistent banging of the ‘Extort’ groove, the kick drum seems constantly to be about to fall over, while the skittering becomes a kind of compressed chattering.

On the B-side ‘Fiber’ is Detroit Electro at its finest but sounding scorched and on fire.  ‘Mask’ sets up a kind of dread hauled over clanking insistent beats before remarkably morphing into a suspended beauty somehow deferred, by only subtly changing the arrangement or the sounds used.  Finally, ‘Taft’ is a version of ‘Fiber’, more dazzling and more assured, but like most of these tracks is cut off mercilessly and with brutal delay, destroying the groove without any warning for the hapless DJ not paying attention.
