Magical Realism blurs the line between fantasy and reality. The cover art is photo from my favourite place in the world ES VEDRA and has been distorted into fantasy. The track pays homage to meditative almost mantric sounds with overlays of birds recorded in my backyard. The track is always bringing us back to reality of “ok” let’s get on with life as this is the only mantra we need. There is a hidden sample of a grittier real world “Harlem” to remind us of how lucky we are to live in the world of MAGICAL REALISM.

House, Deep House, Electronic, Techno, Drum & Base, pains me to list EDM, Afro House, Playa Tech…the list is endless and all of it as a gateway drug to new sounds and experiences. MY ETERNAL RAVE teleports me back to the 1990s…piano loops, simple hooks and that House beat like a freight train. No phones, no ket just all types of people enjoying the dance floor with a smile. 25 years later I still believe in the music. This is my attempt to bottle that feeling and share with the world.

BORIS BALKAN was born in the early 1980s…..what an epoch to enter the world…….For me the 1980s is the greatest decade in the history of humanity…big statement I know but hear me out. Fictional Hollywood icons of Maverick, Gordon Gekko and The Terminator transformed Cinema. Superstars in music and sport were born Madonna, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Flo Jo mesmerised us (notice a pattern?) “USA USA USA” summing up the opulence that was the result of complete US financial deregulation. A movie star as a president in America. Wow what a way to start life. The 1980s were a weird and wonderful time of excess and peak US hegemony. The end of the cold war, the fall of the berlin wall. Capitalist democracies built on consumerism had prevailed, all other ideologies had failed. The end of history had arrived a term coined by Francis Fukuyama the renowned academic. His proclamation stated that globalization would transport us into a stable, international rules-based world where order, peace prosperity and all of us would have the chance to attain the American dream……even if we weren’t American.  Now in 2023 the UTOPIAN Dream of the 1980s seems so far away. My new track UTOPIA written with this backdrop and contextualised by past few years we have lived through answers the question of what would be our Utopia now. The American dream is dead so what is our Utopia in 2023. No War & No Disease.
