In 1979, at the height of The Yorkshire Ripper Killing Spree, The West Yorkshire Police received a recording from a man with a Sunderland accent claiming to be the murderer.

They were convinced it was genuine. 

They were wrong. 

Through archive recordings, I’m Jack explores how the voice of a fantasist hoaxer terrified and fixated the nation, and ultimately allowed the true killer to evade justice far longer than he should have.
