Tačiau, neverta nusiminti, nes būtent tokios nesmagios kelionės gali privesti prie smagių siurprizų ir įkvėpti didiems dalykams. O įkvėpimas dažnai būna daug arčiau, nei atrodo. Šiandienos svečias ERRANT prieš pradedant groti buvo dažnas klubo "Kablys" lankytojas. Magišką 2018-tųjų naktį, bešokant renginyje "Knocturne: Tommy Four Seven", atlikėją aplankė noras išbandyti save kitoje barikadų pusėje. Įkvėpimas tapo puikiu vaikino palydovu gyvenime - ERRANT per trejus metus jau spėjo užkariauti kitų šokėjų širdis įvairiuose renginiuose, tokiuose kaip Darkroom, Ištvermė bei visiems puikiai žinomame festivalyje - Cape Kablys. Atlikėjo slapyvardis ERRANT išvertus reiškia "paklydęs" ir tai puikiai apibūdina vaikino muzikos stilių - pastoviai besikeičiantis, nuo indie ir dark disco iki ebm, breaks, electro bei techno. Į pagalbą pasitelkdamas įvairius muzikos stilius ERRANT bando atrasti save. Tad pasileiskite į nenuspėjamą garsų kelionę, galbūt joje atrasite įkvėpimo gyvenimo pokyčiams.

ORKAITĖ Podcast #46 - ERRANT

Nina Kraviz launches her трип (pronounced ‘trip’) label with a double-EP compilation entitled ’The Deviant Octopus’, featuring a pair of brand new productions from Kraviz alongside material from Terrence Dixon, emerging talent Parrish Smith & Bjarki, and veteran producers Exos & Steve Stoll.

The idea for трип has been gestating for some time with Nina Kraviz, an avid crate-digger and frequenter of numerous second-hand record stores, who has long wanted to begin a label of her own which would build on some of the principles of her beloved 90s techno labels in terms of attitude and aesthetics, whilst looking for forward-thinking modern productions that reflect her core tastes for idiosyncratic electronic music.

The art and title of 'The Deviant Octopus' comes from a single-sentence scenario dreamt up by Kraviz: “Without a moment's notice an Octopus appeared and devoured everyone in sight”. Supplied with this scenario, artist Tombo rendered his own unique visualization for the artwork that adorns the release sleeve. It's Kraviz's own nod to the labels that inspire her and grab her attention while digging through second hand records, the best of which were imbued with the unique personality of the people behind them. This extends to the sound Kraviz intends for трип: dusky, divergent and trippy music to stimulate brains, dreams and fantasies.

In this respect ‘The Deviant Octopus’ is a perfect introduction: Kraviz herself is represented on the tracklist by two new tracks that take up the mantle of last year’s Mr Jones EP by returning to the vocal-flecked hypnotic techno that marked out that release. Complimenting those are two new cuts from a true master of hallucinatory off-kilter techno, Terrence Dixon in his Population One guise.

Joining them will be a pair of names from the techno pantheon who have been huge influences on Kraviz: with a career that’s taken in releases on Synewave, Trax, Novamute and Richie Hawtin’s early-90s Probe Records, Steve Stoll has been mining his own variant on techno and acid minimalism for over twenty years, heading up the Proper NYC label and releasing under various pseudonyms, such as Cobalt, of which Kraviz has been a long-term fan. His counterintuitively titled ‘Pop Song’ sits alongside a 13-minute 90s techno excursion from Reykjavik’s Exos - the only previously-released cut (originally appearing on Thule Records sub-label Plast Trax in 1998) - together illustrating that трип will also live up to its name in the geographical sense: showcasing great music from historically vibrant electronic music scenes outside of the usual Detroit-Berlin axis.

With Kraviz looking to build a small repertory of talent around трип, this first release also makes room for two newer names: Bjarki is an Icelandic talent to keep a firm eye on, who drew Kraviz’s attention in a chance meeting after a gig at Copenhagen’s Culturebox club, after which he passed her a collection of mind-bendingly odd demos; while Parrish Smith is a talented Netherlands-based producer whose short yet impactful sketch ‘1.0 / 8.0 Afrika Genocide’ brings the second 12” to a bewitching close.

All tracks on ‘The Deviant Octopus’ will feature on Nina Kraviz’s DJ Kicks compilation, out in January 2015 on !K7 Records.

The Taapion Records boss has previously released on Wolfskuil and Bright Sounds and here serves up some truly sumptuous space techno. This is perfectly heady music for cerebral dance floors.

Ostgut Ton’s Berghain mix series returns with volume 08 by Fiedel. Available on 12” vinyl are four new exclusive tracks by Electric Indigo, Stefan Rein, rRoxymore and Boris & Fiedel. 

Few figures in Berlin dance music can claim as lasting and multifaceted a presence as longtime Berghain resident Fiedel. A former resident at Berghain forerunner OstGut, the veteran DJ and producer is known by heads for his decades-long influence on left-field techno and bass music in the German capital, particularly as one half of celebrated production duo MMM with Errorsmith, and co-operator of the legendary Wax Treatment parties together with Mark Ernestus of Hard Wax and Basic Channel fame. Indeed, Fiedel’s broad vision of what works on the dance floor is informed by grooves both in and outside the realm of 4/4 – from, acid, electro and jungle to hip-hop, dub und breaks – all subtly present in hybrid forms on previous releases for Ostgut Ton and his own Fiedelone and Fiedeltwo imprints. So it makes sense that the four exclusive tracks he has curated for the 8th edition of the Berghain mix series radiate the same off-kilter, bass-heavy and deep techno sensibility. 

Veteran Viennese producer, activist and DJ Electric Indigo kicks blasts things off with “Registers”, employing her trademark dubby and sample-heavy rhythmic constructions, minor chords and distorted hats. Driving and atmospheric, “Registers” sets the bar high not only for the 12-inch but also as the explosive opener for the mix itself. This is followed on A2 by PURE-TRAXX founder Stefan Rein, whose deep, hypnotic “Panther” transcends techno-tool status with entrancing siren melodies and psychedelic builds and releases. 

French-born, Berlin-based producer rRoxymore takes a sonic left turn on B-Side opener “Tropicalcore”, where bleepy, distorted and complex drum patterns recall both classic DMZ and later post-dubstep funk. Finally, B2 belongs to Fiedel himself, who teams up with fellow veteran Berghain resident and Berlin techno stalwart Boris on “Div’hain”. The track teems with with bubbling bass-lines, cowbells and claps shaped by modular synths, as well as elements of electro and boogie – but jacks hard. It’s a fitting closer to one of the mix series’ most eclectic 12-inches – made by one of Berghain’s most fearless residents.

Boris & Fiedel | Div'hain

Hybris is a state of dissoluteness, of loss of control, of greed and of lustfulness. Following that motto, Wice takes his listeners on a journey through a hybristic process on his second Steinlach EP, which chooses an enchanting and euphemistic entrance into hybris with Absent (No Aggression). Gentle pads create a peaceful and dreamy world that is turned into a fascinating landscape of sound by trippy drums and dopey synths and so pushes wide open the gate to hybris. The threateningly booming HB11 then finally enters the state of hybris: synths and drums pump adrenalin in heads and bodies, dancing turns into greed, the complete lack of control sets in. That lack of control riots towards its peak with the eponymic Hybris, which tears the listener in technoid and gritty manner into the abyiss of hybris and holds him captive down there. Hybris is followed by Nemesis, the devine punishment ending in death: Wice interprets this transition towards Nemesis with Hertz, a playful and breaky good-night kiss, which feels pretty damn good and resonates bittersweetly. Techno pioneer Luke Slater, AKA Planetary Assault Systems, honoured Stroboscopic Artefacts by taking SA003 on his latest tour of Asia. While still in Japan he was inspired to remould and rethink “Gmork” in the studio, giving the track his twisted hallmark. He takes the original elements of “Gmork” and weights them base-side-up. In his hands the track becomes more dizzying, disorientating and hypnotic than before. Luke Slater injects playful flourishes in the form of odd glassy sounds and off beat insertions. For anyone who has experienced one of his Berghain residency sets you will recognise the warped 9am atmosphere.

Token starts off 2019 with aplomb, courtesy of a new three-tracker from Inigo Kennedy. Entitled Trajectory, this set of compositions continues to cement his legacy as an innovator who has been evolving his own style for more than two decades now. Starting off with the thwacking title track, Kennedy balances bright melodies and ethereal chords alongside rhythms that stir long after the track has faded away. "Tone Poem" is methodically coy around emboldened percussive storytelling that takes center-stage up until its last moments. "Turmoil" is a sci-fi trip that beams down to the dancefloor with thundering drums.

Throughout his career, Roger Semsroth has followed a deep intuition for experimentation in sound, wrapping club music around eerie microtonal motifs and industrial sensibilities. This new work for Tresor takes a step forward, as the first true techno album from Sleeparchive, where his previous LPs have exhibited themselves more conceptually, or under different names and his Nord Vest label.

Semsroth has been active in electronic music since the late 90s. He received initial attention first for his electro productions under the alias Skanfrom and the 80s minimal synth inspired Television Set. These projects echoed his love for these sounds, which the East Berliner had steadily immersed himself with after the end of the GDR. Upon hearing the bleeps of Mika Vainio and Plastikman, he began to engage with his strain of techno. Over the last decade, he has focused on his Sleeparchive alias, which dates back to 2004. Alongside close friend DJ Pete, he performs live techno as TR-101. His relationship with Tresor began in 2011, first releasing the Ronan Point EP and following up with the crucial A Man Dies In The Street series in 2013.

With this new album, Sleeparchive's impact on the techno sound is ever more relevant. Awaking in constant locomotion, locked-in, unrelenting and dry. Sleeparchive’s churning loops etch visions of tight minimalism at times densely frenetic and others serenely galactic. This predilection continues throughout the four sides on the album, eschewing conventional arrangement styles with gradual probabilistic change. Tracks such as 'Needle' and 'Peccant' offer up precise, sinewy techno. 'Leave' recalls the Detroit sound of Terrence Dixon, with its cascading synth tones and droning atmospheres. The album closes with a different version of 'Trust' to that found on last year’s Revised Recordings EP released on Tresor, with its now-familiar nerve-inducing pizzicato strings even more at the fore with its mechanic delivery.
