London’s Matt Ryder, AKA Odee X, kickstarts REK’D’s 2025 with the ‘X-Ray’ EP this January, following the release of his ‘So Hot It Hurts’ EP on Rekids aﬃliate Don Rimini’s Bunkaball.

The ‘X-Ray’ EP’s title track sees Odee X place a powerful piano melody at the centre among bleepy synths and clever drum arrangements, a short but eﬀective vocal appearing before its frenzied drop, omitted in the instrumental version. The infectious ‘Culture Dub’ then comes in with a carefully built groove of organic percussion, playful sampling, and plenty of echo to round out this classy peak-time House EP rife with dub influences.

Formerly known as B.U.U.G, Odee X has released on labels like Street Tracks and Nightmayors, with his contemporary takes on House and T echno winning the support of artists like Laurent Garnier, Jamie Jones, and Marco Faraone while receiving plays on BBC Introducing.

Matt Edwards launched REK’D in October 2024 to release no-nonsense House music without the limitations of parent label Rekids. So far, they’ve released dancefloor-ready EPs from Italian Theory Of Swing boss St. David and Nervous Records alum James Juke, with Odee X now landing on the label ahead of what will surely be a jam-packed year of quality releases for the REK’D imprint.

Producer DJ Mind-X formerly released the record under Energetic Records, a trance specialist label based in Switzerland. This fresh version sees the tempo slowed down, still preserving the track’s 90s trance qualities with its sultry looped spoken vocals and hypnotic melody. Miami house producer Jesse Perez works his magic on the track with a bouncy body-jerking beat typical of his signature bass-heavy sound. Hailing from Caracas Venezuela, Pablo Sánchez has made his home in Barcelona, carving out an impressive reputation for exciting and eclectic productions and performances. Here, he drops a hugely impressive three tracker for Hamburg’s hafendisko label.
‘Daydream’ is built around a throbbing groove. Thick, punchy kicks and snappy snares set the tone, before the bubbling, rolling baseline brings the propulsion. Spacey synths and shuffling percussion suggest a love of the more outer-fringes of disco and house, before the vocal drops to bring the whole track together.
Pablo Bolivar produces a crispy remix - tonnes of space and dynamism in the mix allows the elements to breath and find their own function - the track explodes into life with a full throttle release of kinetic energy - sure to hit hard when deep into the more cosmic parts of the night.
‘Mahari’ is a finely crafted and slickly executed piece that exists in the same orbit as ‘Daydream’ ,but finds a different way to shine - pulsing synth tones and stuttering effects cast the vibe deep into space - one that will stick with the more outernational dancefloor troopers.
