In one of the very best, standout projects we’ve heard in 2021 thus far, Bournemouth-based Mirrorman delivers an outstanding, showstopping debut on the ever-impressive Guidance Music, who continue to outline and cement their reputation for pushing only the finest in high-quality, no-nonsense drum & bass.

‘Ski Sunday’ kicks things off with instantly-brilliant percs and shuffles, something we’ve immediately come to expect from Guidance, and of course Mirrorman moving forward. This first cut lines up at traversal warp speed, throwing up sticks of pure dynamite that trigger cascading avalanches left, right and centre, making perfect use of tight, snappy instrumentation and barbaric synthetics; a primed cut, perfectly suited for a gritty, low-ceilinged dancefloor. ‘They’re Coming’ is delectably dizzying, taking us deeper into the oozing murk that envelopes this immersive, submerged 174 workout - eerie, ringing bass movements pivot and tease with striking intent, whilst lead track ‘Push’ catapults proceedings straight back into the rave - you might recognise this corker from the recent Break & Inja stream on Run Tingz TV. Last, and certainly not least, the striking Submotive-featured lick ‘Testament’ rounds things off with perhaps the heaviest track on the EP, and in many ways is the perfect closer. That restrained build just before the bassline is to die for, with the tune as a whole packed full to the brim with eclectic funk, stonking bassweight and technically-fasinating aesthetics - it’s a cracking showpiece.

Veteran Newcastle Drum & Bass producer Tyrone makes his debut on The North Quarter with Hurt Index, a bespoke six-track statement piece showing off a new dimension to his sound.

While writing Hurt Index on and off over a two year period, Tyrone challenged himself to step out of his comfort zone and to find a tone that balances his signature sound with that of The North Quarter. The end result is a collection of intricate hi-tech funk of the highest pedigree and a project of a more weathered artist, who has grown and expanded his repertoire. 

“The last few years have seen some really turbulent times in my personal life which in turn has given me the ability to be able to lean on these emotions for inspiration. There was an emotion carried throughout the production of each of these tunes which is what makes this project incredibly personal to me” Tyrone explains. “The entire process has In a way been very cathartic, sort of like a spring clean for the brain.”

We’re delighted to welcome Klippee into the CIA fold, and he bounces his way right through the door with three tracks of pure heat with his brand new ‘Raw EP’. 

The Seattle native has been making sonic waves for a bit of time now and we’ve been impressed with what we’ve heard. His ‘Raw EP’ showcases exactly the kind of vibes that have been getting his tracks into the record boxes of some of the scene’s top selectors as he comes with weighty bass and tight drums, but always that bit of funk or that jungle vibe that makes him a great fit for CIA. 

All of the tracks have quite a specific sound and feel to them - meaty yet classic breaks, big pulsating bass, and some choice samples to keep them moving. But it feels like Klippee is already carving himself quite a niche and quite a sound - one that’s going to do the damage on the floor and be sure to see his tracks getting some heavy rotation for quite some time to come.

Wreckless continues to impress with the 'Low Light EP', six tracks of richly textured, progressive drum and bass that capture the introspective nature of this talented producer while maintaining serious dancefloor appeal. 

From the garage vocal chop-inspired 'Best Kept Secrets' to the experimental 17/16 time signature of 'Seventeen Heads' Wreckless demonstrates his varied influences throughout. Taking in rolling breaks on 'Eclipse Sequence', granular processing on 'H2O' and inspiration from recent DJ performances in Dalston on 'Hexagon', this EP is a surefire hit for fans of Wreckless. 

The title track, 'Low Light,' speaks of winter mornings, leaving warehouse clubs in the cold dead of night on a track inspired by science fiction, industrial landscapes and alternative grooves. Essential listening.

Inspired by how a prism disperses light, each track reveals a distinct dimension, from high-energy bursts to more introspective soundscapes.

 

On a spiritual level, 'Prisma' symbolizes clarity, balance, and personal transformation. Just as a prism transforms white light into a multi-coloured spectrum, this album seeks to transform the listener's emotions and experiences into a deep dive, encompassing all the colours of the soul. Powerful bass lines and immersive atmospheres guide the listener through a journey of purification, balance, and connection, creating a harmonious space where the divine and the earthly meet. Each track reflects the diversity of sound and music's ability to convey both light and shadow, always maintaining a perfect balance between the ethereal and the raw, the melodic and the visceral.

 

Additionally, 'Prisma' is influenced by Latin American rhythmic patterns such as salsa, cumbia, vallenato, and carranga, albeit indirectly, avoiding the common use of sampling well-known instruments or songs. The influence manifests itself more in the rhythms and beats than in traditional sonic elements, giving the album a distinctive and deep character.

{Premiere} Brain - Experiences (Dispatch Recordings)

After five years of planning, writing, and refining their sound, London-based production duo Kolectiv are set to release their long-awaited debut drum & bass album, Circadian Rhythms.

The project began in the aftermath of the pandemic, when the pair started setting aside tracks that captured the spirit of a night out at a drum & bass event. Their vision was clear: to create an album that reflects the variety, energy, and progression of a rave – from the first beats that pull you into the closing sounds that carry you home.

“Going out to drum & bass nights, you’d hear so many different flavours across six or seven hours. We wanted the album to follow that same arc – like a circadian rhythm, a natural flow of time, but in this case the cycle of a rave,” Kolectiv explain.

To achieve this, the duo placed a strong emphasis on originality and sound design. Most of the album was built from scratch using their own recorded samples, crafted through sessions with keys, drums, and guitars, and only dipping into external sources when absolutely necessary. Vocal collaborations from PAV4N, Hijak MC, Illmatika and Kerry Donnelly add unique flavour to the project, while carefully placed interludes tie the project together as a complete listening experience.

“This isn’t just a collection of tracks. We wanted it to be a journey – a cradle-to-grave kind of experience – with highs, lows, and moments to breathe.”

The title Circadian Rhythms captures that intention perfectly: an audio diary of a night spent immersed in drum & bass culture, told through Kolectiv’s trademark blend of technical precision and emotional depth.

The project also coincided with a complete studio overhaul, giving Kolectiv a fresh environment to finalize and mix down the record with a renewed sense of clarity and focus.

With Circadian Rhythms, Kolectiv deliver more than an album – they present a story, an atmosphere, and a tribute to the music and culture that shaped them.
