When Spiral Tribe congregated in Berlin in the Winter of 1993, they found themselves squatting a series of trailers at Potsdamer Platz. In one of these trailers R-Zac was born. Musically the duo were transitioning from UK breakbeat techno as "The Spiral Tribe Liveset" into what would become R-Zac's signature hard psychedelic sound. This double LP marks the beginning of that journey.

I loved all my sets at Glastonbury but I’m particularly proud of my Gas Tower / Shangrila set. That particular night seemed to warrant a set that was deeper and harder than I normally go and I thoroughly enjoyed where it went…

My next guest on Yax Invites is Chicago Loop.

Chicago Loop is a name that has now been firmly stamped throughout the modern world of techno, albeit within a fairly short space of time. The man behind this relatively new alias however, is certainly not a newcomer to the scene. Ant Wilson, or Ant to his friends, has been producing electronic music and traveling the globe playing at clubs, events and festivals since 1994 from Japan to North and South America, Israel, Russia, South Africa, Europe and everywhere else in between.

It was a career that started back in the heady days of early 90’s London at the illegal rave and warehouse parties that made up a huge part of the scene at that time. Ant very quickly moved onto producing music shortly after, and around the year 2000 he started running his own record label out of the infamous Kinetec studio and record shop in London’s Oxford Circus. Eventually, with almost two decades of travelling, DJ’ing and recording experience under his belt, Ant decided it was time for a change, and in 2013 the Chicago Loop alias was unleashed, which focused solely on creating more upfront and modern techno productions. Within just a few years of launching the project, Chicago Loop secured releases on major labels such as Phobiq, Respekt, Toolroom, Riot, Funk’N Deep, Renesanz and Techburst and his tracks received continued support from some of the scenes biggest players. His 2016 techno hit, “Use Me” on Techburst Records enjoyed over 200 days in the Beatport Hard Techno chart and sat at the No.1 spot for over 25 of those days.

In addition to the many successes with releases, Chicago Loop has been showcasing his sound around the world, playing at events in Asia, South America and across Europe. Some highlights have included the legendary “Techno Tuesday Amsterdam” and the sold out “Welcome To The Future Festival” events and in 2021 he secured a new residency at Friday Happiness in Tojeiro in Southern Portugal.

Today, Chicago Loop is constantly busy in the studio writing more high-profile releases, as well as his chart-topping sample packs on Industrial Strength and endeavours to continue his journey delivering more fresh, no-nonsense techno to dance floors around the world.

Simple in theory, but not in execution. In his role as Music Supervisor for “Unconscious Therapy,” a documentary released in April 2016 that chronicles the rise and evolution of house music via the lens of Frankie Knuckles and his fellow innovators, Callerio took on the crucial responsibility of​ ​ licensing and curating the film’s soundtrack.​ ​ He is also a featured artist in the documentary, alongside Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Masters at Work and a bevy of other house icons. 

Possessed of an entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to embrace change, Callerio has earned and enjoyed enduring success as both an artist and label-owner. Los Angeles-based Dufflebag Recordings, which Callerio launched in 1998, has been churning out deep and funky grooves suffused with soulful vocals since its inception, and the label boasts an impressive roster of artists that includes Demarkus Lewis, Manjane, Alysha Kid, Corduroy Mavericks, JT Donaldson, Natural Rhythm, Ryan Truman and R&B legend Jon B. under his moniker Jah Ques. 

For Callerio, house music still holds just as much untapped potential as it did when he first cut his teeth on the genre in the early nineties — and he’s never been one to rest on his laurels when his passion is at stake and opportunity abounds. “I don’t try to predict the future of house, I try to give it my imagination and push with my music,” Callerio says. “I try to inspire people into making and playing the right stuff.” That drive and openness have kept Callerio prolific, relevant and on top of his game — and better still, are a promise of many good things yet to come.
