We start this new cycle sharing with you ORCAS REMIXED Vol. 1
released in collaboration with the Colorado-based label Black Swan Records,

featuring amazing NEW music by Nicola Cruz, El Buho, SaQi, and Sleepers Work.

We invited a select group of internationally renowned electronic music producers from across the globe to remix and rework the pristine, hyper-acoustic songs from our album ORCAS.

The ORCAS remixes will be released in five volumes, matching up producers from a wide range of genres and collectives: digital cumbia from Argentina, New Mexican desert techno, transformational jungle kirtan, downtempo psydub from the Colorado mountains, etc. Expect amazing new remixes by Chancha Via Circuito, Desert Dwellers, Paul Feathericci, San Ignacio, David Last, Montoya, EVHA, and a few more.

In 2015, after 10 years of recording and touring through over 50 cities in five different countries, electronic folk duo Lulacruza released Orcas, their critically-acclaimed fifth studio album, and most intimate work to date. To make the recording, Lulacruza traveled from their native South America to Orcas Island in the Pacific Northwest, crafting a both delicate and powerful album, which has garnered critical acclaim from Gilles Peterson to the Huffington Post, who wrote, “As musical alchemists, [Alexandra] Ortiz and [Luis] Maurette have achieved a harmonious balance between organic and inorganic sounds, creating a truly shamanic sonic journey.” 

January 15th, 2016 will mark the release of the first volume of Orcas Remixed, for which Lulacruza invited a select group of internationally renowned electronic music producers from across the globe to remix and rework their pristine, hyper-acoustic songs. The remixes will be released in five volumes of four remixes each through a “pay-what-you-want” download model, matching up producers from a wide range of genres and collectives, including digital cumbia from Argentina, New Mexican desert techno, transformational jungle kirtan and more. 

Orcas Remixed Vol. 2 includes remixes by Chancha Via Circuito, David Last, King Coya and MI. Other volumes feature remixes by Nicola Cruz, El Buho, SaQi, and Sleepers Work, Desert Dwellers, Paul Feathericci, San Ignacio, David Last, Montoya, EVHA and more. 

Lulacruza is releasing Orcas Remixed in collaboration with Colorado-based label, Black Swan Sounds. Since 2011, BSS has pursued a new vision for global music and has been a leader in the yoga and devotional electronic music scene, a unique match for Lulacruza’s deep roots of electronic folklore and ancestrally rooted music. Says Black Swan Minister of Music Joel Davis, “As a listener, I’ve been a fan of Alejandra and Luis’ music for several years, and as someone working in the record industry, I’ve admired their out-of-the-box, DIY approach. Lulacruza is an electronic folk duo operating at the junction of the hypermodern and the ancient.  Their music weaves together hypnotic female singing, South American folk instruments and electronic processing, while channeling pulsating waves from the source of creation.
Lulacruza combines songs, soundscapes and dance music with astonishing ease. In their live sets, they process and sample acoustic instruments, moving from tribal beats and songs amidst electronic textures, to beautiful drones and chants. 

Treating sound almost like a malleable plastic material, Lulacruza creates live and organic sonic spaces. Their music has the power to induce intense trance-like states, invoking otherworldly nature spirits and activating the resonant frequencies of the human body. 

Lulacruza is made up of Alejandra Ortiz (Colombia) and Luis Maurette (Argentina). Alejandra is an extraordinary songbird and plays the Colombian cuatro and percussion. Luis Maurette complements with electronic processing and sequencing, as well as percussion and charango. Live, they recently incorporated Pablo Paz (Argentina) on bass, electronics, and percussion.

Since meeting at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, USA, in 2005, Lulacruza has performed in over 50 cities in 5 countries and released 6 albums: Do Pretty! (2006), Soloina (2008), an EP of remixes called Canta (2009), Circular Tejido (2011, Esperando el Tsunami - Visual Album (2015) and Orcas (2015). As well as the film Esperando el Tsunami with French videographer Vincent Moon. 
Their music has been included in documentaries in Colombia, Argentina and Mexico, as well as compilations in Japan, Argentina, Italy, the USA and Venezuela. In 2007, they were chosen as Today’s Top Tune on Morning Becomes Eclectic KCRW 89.9. In 2008, they were Artists in Residency at the Red Poppy Art House in San Francisco, CA and were recipients of both the Zellerbach Family Foundation grant and the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation grant for their multidisciplinary performances and social reach. In 2009 and 2011, their second, fourth and sixth albums were included in the prestigious Club del Disco catalogue in Argentina. 

They are based in Buenos Aires (Argentina).
