“Shapes in Time” is new delicate instrumental song by Japan-based band, Lullatone.
A soft ambient ode to life's little moments. Equally apt at fitting in the background while focusing for work or taking a nap, the meditative melody swells and lulls like an ocean’s waves. 

The video, all shot around the the duo’s studio in Nagoya has the same kind of relaxing mood as the melody. A sleepy sunset sheds flickering rays of washed out light over their instruments as cassette tape loops and a homemade mobile spin in circles. Other instruments include a vintage wooden fender stratocaster, a milkman audio amp pedal providing the spring reverb, an organelle and OP-1 for granular sample mangling and more.

While nodding at the palette of the ambient essentials of the past, Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Aphex Twin, Stars of the Lid... the track feels also at home with more modern masters of the genre like Emily A. Sprague, Alaskan Tapes, Hainbach, Nila Sinephro and more. 
And though not quite classical, the composition has a similar atmospheric mood to the duo's most popular piano track "falling asleep with a book on your chest (piano version)". Leave it on in the background for a reading soundtrack or doing work or even falling to sleep with sweet dreams.

Over the last year, we've released a piano-y version of of our older tracks (plus 10 brand new ones) every single Thursday! I know it is ridiculous to imagine that anybody would want to listen to 52 songs. But doing these kinds of projects always teaches me about how sticking to a schedule can lead to new melodies and new ideas you might not happen upon without a deadline.  Also it feels really nice to finish something you worked hard on.

I think we should have all 52 tracks mastered and set up as a big album by mid-February 2019 and on all the platforms and stuff.

Thanks again to everybody who listened to some of the songs. 
Here's to an exciting next year.

I got this glockenspiel when we were on a road trip in the US from a restaurant off a highway. To be honest, it doesn't sound very good on its own. I just liked that it had a plastic lid that made it strong for touring. 

But lately I did some experiments and found out that if you run it through a guitar pedal pitching everything an octave down... well then, suddenly you are cooking with fire. Especially if that fire gives everything a warm (fire is the only time it is OK to call sounds warm) warbly tone. 

So I wanted to capture it to share with everyone else too. I cut up all of the sounds and made Kontakt and Ableton patches so you can use them in your recordings too

We were stuck inside for a while like everyone else.

At first that led to a lot of ambient melodies, but I have a feeling everyone's inboxes are already overflowing with all that. So, we tried to think of another way to make tracks in this setting.

I guess these are songs for when you feel like a houseplant that only gets to see the world from a windowsill.

Hopefully before too long they'll all take on a totally different meaning and we'll see you all in the park.
