In 2018, as part of Luma Days #2, a forum of art and ideas, entitled "Hospitality: Searching for Common Ground" Luma hosted a conference moderated by Paul B. Preciado (philosopher, curator, writer), Elsa Dorlin (philosopher and academic), Sandi Hilal (architect, researcher & artist) and Anjalika Sagar (artist).

In his speech Paul B. Preciado offers a transfeminist, anti-colonial reading of hospitality. Through the study of the etymology of this phenomenon and its patriarchal roots, he condemns the violence of its state-imposed conditionality and calls for its inclusive redefinition.

Chaque année, les Luma Days abordent un thème lié aux préoccupations de Luma Arles, porteur d’une réflexion sociétale. En 2017, Luma Days #1 a imaginé des futurs pour une ville dans une biorégion. En 2018, les échanges ont mis à l’honneur l’Hospitalité, à la recherche d’une voie commune. En 2019, les Luma Days #3 ont convoqué l’un des défis majeurs de notre époque à travers le thème : ENSEMBLE, une déclaration d’interdépendance.

Luma Days is a yearly forum of art and ideas. It brings together all the elements that compose Luma Arles’ program and kicks off the summer season with a week of public events, conferences, professional workshops, displays, and art installations.

During Luma Days, the city of Arles becomes a center of gravity in the Mediterranean region, where local and international experts, scientists, artists, thinkers, and activists converge with the general public to share ideas and experiences around topical issues.

Each year, Luma Days considers a theme linked to the preoccupations of the foundation and that can make a social impact. In 2017, Luma Days #1 developed Scenarios for a City in a Bioregion. In 2018, Luma Days #2 exchanges were devoted to Hospitality, Searching for Common Ground. In 2019, the theme explored for the third edition refers to one of the major challenges of our time: TOGETHER, a declaration of interdependence.
