On one of my many tramp tours a French lady named Elain once took me with her. During the trip from Paris to Strasbourg she told me her life story and that she had decided, after more and more agonizing depressions, to put an end to her life. She implored me to accompany her, which I strongly rejected at the time. Rather, I desperately tried to convince her to continue her life. When we said goodbye in Strasbourg, she promised me not to hurt herself. 

A good thirty years later, I do not know what happened to her. In this song, I give free rein to my vision of what it could have been like if I had granted her wish for assisted dying. - A highly controversial theme- . I only give here my passionate pladoyer for accompanied and dignified dying.

Waves Keep Crashing

1941 in Babyn Jar(Ukraine near Kiev), in probably the largest single massacre in the history of mankind, almost 34,000 Jews were murdered by the Nazis in cooperation with the German Wehrmacht by shooting and "piling them up" in the "Women's Gorge” (in Ukrainian "Babyn Jar"). 

Most of the murdered Jews were completely exterminated. Their bodies were burned, their belongings stolen.

With my song "Babyn Jar" I want to make a small contribution to this massacre never being forgotten and everything humanly possible being done so that such an event never repeats in the future.

And since this massacre leaves one only in speechless mourning for the souls, which are often raped, then murdered and wiped out, there are no lyrics in this song apart from a lament choir this time.

More and more people are complaining about sleep disorders. Perhaps it is because the world is becoming more and more complex and confusing; that continuous support and security in loving relationships or in safe places is becoming increasingly rare. 
This lullaby is an attempt to create a trance-like, devotional atmosphere, which is a prerequisite for slipping into a deep, restful sleep. In all steps - from composing to mixing - I have always imagined holding a fearful, troubled child in my arms and carefully lulling it until it falls asleep again.
And it is a now almost universally accepted knowledge of sleep psychology that deep, restful sleep is based on trusting inner bonding: An inner loving parent accompanies the inner child so empathetically that it can devote itself completely to a pleasant sleep.
For me, French is the language that is best suited to lead someone who lies awake at night to sleep (again) with appropriate tender words.

This song is dedicated to one of my best friends. A fascinating person, but one who is permanently under the pressure of electricity, driven by a burning desire for deep inner peace and yet constantly restlessly searching. In one of our intensive conversations he said about himself: "My longing is holding me tight". - And in this way the title of this song was born. 
Yesterday he called me and said: “Karl, the Corona crisis is terrible on the one hand. It creates a lot of illness, financial threats and, due to the increasing restrictions on the exit, possibly an escalation of violence. 
On the other hand, the rapid disruption of everything that has been my daily habits forces me to face more of the three basic questions of life that I have been running away from so often:
Who am I really? How do I want to shape the relationship with my loved ones?And: What place do I basically want to take in society and the world?”
And then something happened that I had not known about him before: He paused, and there was a pleasant silence on the phone line. Finally he said: "You might be surprised; with all the shit that Corona brings with it, the forced deceleration associated with it does me a tremendous amount of good. I finally get a little bit of that inner peace I've always longed for.”
Maybe this little monologue of my friend will help all those who are struck with the Corona crisis (...and therefore me, too) to see in this current "world tsunami" also a chance for profound change...
