The feel of a certain late night/early morning spent in downtown Detroit, written and recorded at Vampire Street Studios Ann Arbor during the summer of 1999. Composed and sequenced entirely inside the 88mm x 43mm x 104mm box known as the Yamaha QY70, including the piano solos, which were played on the Lilliputian keys of said sequencer.
Slightly shorter version previously released only in very limited circulation. This version previously unreleased.

Detroit, 4:34 A.M. (recorded at Vampire Street Studios Ann Arbor, summer 1999)

My thematic rewrite of the Rolling Stones' "Honky Tonk Women". The lyrics and vocal melody were written on the 15 minute walk from a friend's apartment to my house one early early morning after many hours of drinking and playing music, and were recorded as soon as I got home, along with the bass line. The guitar was recorded the next day, despite a massive hangover, and the very basic drum track was programmed a couple years ago as something to work off of later... which never quite happened. Remixed and polished up for mass consumption July 2015.
Previously unreleased and only heard by about 5 other people until now.

Origami Cat Plan has gone through many changes over the five years it's been around. I think it's in "Origami Cat Plan Phase 4" now. It's gone from J&K-pop influenced electronica to moderately funky to soulfully abstract to organic and complex, and there are somewhere around 150 unreleased tracks from its lifespan. This is one of them. Actually, this has the distinction of being the very first Origami Cat Plan track ever. There's a long story behind it (which will probably be told at some point), but unlike crushed velvet explosion, where I came up with the band name after I decided to release a bunch of tracks I was working on, the name came first for Origami Cat Plan, and I liked it so much that I decided to make it a "band" and record music to fit it. What exists here is the first attempt at coming up with the sound for Origami Cat Plan, and it was written and recorded within an hour of coming up with the name. But, after listening to it, it didn't seem quite right. It wasn't the initial direction I wanted to take with the new "band", so I spent another two hours on a new track that I thought fit the band name better, and that was "Theme from Origami Cat Plan" (https://youtu.be/VjBg0mxjXJY), and that laid the groundwork for everything that followed. Although, I did steal the name from this track for that track - this was the original "Theme from Origami Cat Plan" and was retitled to "The Man from M.E.O.W." later to avoid confusion when I was going through the project files on the computer. If this had remained the original "Theme from Origami Cat Plan", the sound of Origami Cat Plan might be quite different from what it was and has evolved into... I'm sure there's some alternate Paper Feline Universe out there where that exact thing has happened, and I'd be very curious to hear what the result was...

The Man from M.E.O.W. (recorded at Paper Feline Studios, June 2010)

Originally recorded and released as a Crushed Velvet Explosion track when the band name still had capital letters in it, I was never quite happy with the mix and production of the song - it just wasn't noisy enough. When I killed off the first incarnation of crushed velvet explosion and pulled all the tracks from the interwebz that typified the sound the band originally had, I decided I wanted to release this later with a better mix. And that's exactly what I'm doing.....
