Six years in the making, DJ Dana Lu’s debut EP, Girls Having Fun, is finally here. The Dominican-American New Jersey-based DJ and producer has created over a hundred tracks since 2014, but only these four tracks gave her that same euphoric feeling she experiences when she’s behind the decks energizing a party with her music selections. Girls Having Fun is concentrated femxle energy. “This is for the groove; this is for the soul,” Suaso, New Jersey-based emcee, asserts on the intro track, “Suaso Speaks”. “It’s okay to lose control,” he continues amongst the pitter-pattering percussion. Dana Lu leaves us no choice, brilliantly fusing Baile funk with Jersey club on the feverish dance floor heater, "Chapiadora!" Dominican slang for gold digger, "Chapiadora!" imports the vibrant synth horns and thumping bass from the Brazilian favelas to the pounding heart of New Jersey. “Bestfriend,” written by Dana Lu herself with DJ Hook on the vocals, is a bouncing, booty shaking anthem doubling as an adoring love song to our girl gang. The palpitating percussion and seductive vocals from New Jersey-based vocalist, La Morena Jefa, "Tocame Papi" heat up the afterhours. Girls Having Fun is what it sounds like to be surrounded by endlessly supportive womxn. During a battle with her own self-confidence while producing this EP, Dana Lu relied on the hype and encouragement from her girls to push her over the finish line. And through that experience, she learned a lesson for the ages – life is too short to do anything but have fun at all times.
