This is a sound collage and field recording collected from Jinghong part of the Mekong-Lancang River in Yunnan China. The collection time is early October 2021.
Walking and observing during my residency in Jinghong town made me curious about the rich local soundscape. For many people, Jinghong-Xishuangbanna is a legendary place and a tourist attraction. Large-scale tourist areas have been developed along the river one after another. This is a highly touristic place, where the rich nature and the landscape full of performances dazzle the tourists who come here. But behind those spectacles, there are also some corners that belong to local people, where they play in the water, chat in dialect, buy food and cook, and live a simple daily life.
And I, by walking and listening to the sound of Jinghong, try to record them. The city life, tourist spectacle, infrastructure spectacle, popular culture, gods and trickling river water blend together to form a charming Mekong soundscape. It makes me switch back and forth between rough current experience and dreamy historical memory, and I can't tell each other apart.

At nightfall, I went to meet my friends at As You Like Café at Tian Jun Dian alley. It was a very hidden alley and bit narrow. There were only two very small restaurants, but the Café was a super cozy place. I arrived early and stood outside the cafe recording the sound. The Cafe staffs began to cook for the guests, and passers walked through the alley one after another. Suddenly it began to rain, I opened my umbrella, continued to listen to the sound of this pleasant alley, and continued to wait for the arrival of friends.
傍晚时分，我和朋友约在天君殿巷的有佳咖啡馆见面，这是一条非常隐蔽的小巷子，巷子很窄，只有两家很小的餐馆，有佳咖啡馆特别惬意。我提前到达，站在咖啡馆外面录音。咖啡馆开始为客人做饭，陆续有路人穿过这条狭窄的巷子。突然下起了小雨，我撑开雨伞，继续聆听这条惬意的巷子里的声音，继续等待朋友们的到来。

one kilometer long and totally dark tunnel, the space is more and more narrower, our heads hit rock quite often.

these recordings are recorded in kunming city, from early February to early May in 2020. These random sound clips reflect the process of the whole city from silence to vitality, and personal life from the public space to the private space and then back to the public space again. Life in private space also substantially affects the openness of public space, and vice versa, the closure of public life makes private life cramped and boring. The daily life that swings between the two has gradually become a longer "new normal" that everyone has to overcome.
The recording ended up with 24 field recordings, each with 60 seconds and each sound with an interval of 3 seconds. This is an equal arrangement, and they are arranged as neatly as the hand sanitizer on the shelf. In these sound clips, private life during the period of home isolation, media messages, and slowly reviving urban life are intertwined.
这些录音绝大多数来自今年2月初至5月初三个多月的时间内，我在昆明的实地录音。这些随机收录的声音片段反映出整座城市从沉寂到恢复生机，个人生活也从公共空间退回私人空间再返回公共空间的过程。私人空间里的生活也实质性地影响到公共空间的开放度，反之亦然，公共生活的关闭让私人生活变得局促和无聊。摇摆在两者之间的日常生活逐渐成为大家不得不克服的更为漫长的“新常态”。
这个录音作品最终收录了24条实地录音片段，每段60秒，每个声音间隔3秒。这是一种平等的排列，它们像货架上的洗手液一样整齐摆放。在这些声音片段中，居家隔离时期的私人生活、媒体讯息、慢慢恢复生机的城市生活交错混合在一起。
