Ever Changing

This song is the first song Danny and I truly finished together since I moved back to OKC. We sat on my Mesta Park quadplex balcony one hot day and started strumming this summery guitar part. At one point, I said, "we need a really Beach Boys-esque melody here" and Danny just started singing "Barbara Ann" which actually became the vocal rhythm of the song. 

The song felt like it was going to be a pretty clean surfy continuation of Golden Year, but then Tom Bishop suggested we should cover Devo's "Uncontrollable Urge." While practicing for NMF we would go into these poorly executed takes of the song and ended up shelving the idea. However, I think Devo made its way into this song - the drum beats, synths, and pre-verse turnaround have a Mark Mothersbaugh-type vibe that I dig. Zach Zeller came over for about twenty minutes and added some of the best parts of the song - the bass line, the guitar solo, and the synth hook all came from the twenty minutes he came by.

Lastly, the lyrics for "Neuromancer" are loosely inspired by William Gibson's book of the same title. That's all the references to VR cowboys and stuff. These are some of my favorite lyrics we've ever written.
