MSJY commences the dance, wrapping some deft breaks around a steamy reggaeton shell. Viiaan douses the loose dembow groove with a hypnagogic mood and chuggy bassline. Dåser maps out an itchy labyrinth of percussive electro that relentlessly mutates. Mossambi unfurls a futurist digi stepper brimming with excitable technoid energy. Octoptic indulges late 00’s dark
2-step but updated with remarkably modern sound design. Elpac and Mulholland combine to burn twisted breaks within an all-consuming rave menace. Baitface provides us with a loving
throwback, an unreleased gem from 2012 fit with dub momentum and snappy snares for the headbangerz. Henzo flicks the hood up and gets nasty for a dialed-up skankstep wonder. Soreab opens his third eye with a haunted drumtastic half time chug. soltura sees us out with an icey wub finale of stirring synth-etic emotions amidst a melodic wonderland of sound.

Introducing Pala EP, the first instalment of Pressure Dome’s new tape series and a PD debut from London’s City Kudu. So far finding its home across Manchester’s Access Memory imprint, and Kudu’s own beloved brainchild, Kite Hill Records, the emerging producer’s discography toys with space and rhythm to create immersive environments.

In keeping with this theme, Pala EP is a thoughtful display of the ways in which light and shade can co-exist in dance music, each track bolstered by driving bass lines and accented by delicate melodic flares. Honeysuckle and Jade draw on dubbed-out soundscapes taken from the schools of Basic Channel and SND, both enlivened by the dynamism of tuned drums. The former is haunted by a fragmented voice, whilst the latter is bathed in a plaintive ambience. Connected in their half-time pace, Pala and Twine work to further emphasise the dichotomy between light and shade. The title track’s dancehall-indebted rhythm accompanies radiant pads, whilst Twine represents its gritty counterpart, not a far cry from the work of Livity Sound extraordinaires Toma Kami and Kouslin. 

Exclusively on offer to those swift enough to get their hands on a limited edition cassette, the B-side sees Kudu wear the EP’s influences on his sleeve, offering an inspiration mix featuring music that has fed into the sound of the EP.

Following their outstanding appearance on Kindergarten Records VA Fluo III, Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Martini debuts on Early Reflex with their first EP titled ‘Last Laugh’.

Touching sonic landscapes adjacent to Leftfield Techno, Dubstep and Electro, Martini explores in their 4-tracker the power to impact on both body and mind through their immersive sound achieved by a precise manipulation of timbre and rhythm from the American producer.

Title track ‘Last Laugh’ opens the journey into Martini’s world with syncopated beats and its punch kick surrounded by warped effects and a texture of arpeggiated synthesisers.
Mood and BPMs shift into electro-mode in’If I Don’t Laugh I’ll Cry’ a heavy distorted synth signals to the listeners that an explosive beat is about to drop.
The dance keeps going on and on with ‘Chaste’ which follows next, a wormhole of incessant kick-drums, pitch-shifting effects and punchy-basses.
The atmospherical state of‘Serendipity’ close the sonic journey into Martini’s world, where mind-twisting pads and undistinguishable vocals pre-announce the landing on an extraterrestrial dub-heavy “sonosphere”.

Martini said:
“This EP represents my deep interest in expressing convoluted emotions and narratives through the precise manipulation of timbre and rhythm. I’m fascinated by the power sound has over your mind and body despite the level of abstraction it can exhibit, which I try to exploit by carefully crafting each sound.”

Following his 2021 debut on the reverse label with Retreat Ites EP and a spot on the Molten Mirrors compilation, Jurango is back on Livity Sound with another four tracks of low-slung soundsystem pressure. 

On An Amorphous Mass EP Jurango presents a particularly focused sound which draws on halftime D&B, dancehall and broken techno all filtered through the meditative pulse of low tempo club music. The measured pace of the tracks doesn’t detract from their weight, whether it manifests in the heavy roll of murky opener ‘Big Saver’, ‘Inner Seam’s mutant dembow rhythm or the heady breakbeat chops of the title track. The stripped-back subs and fractured percussion of ‘Muni Ce Boa’ close the record in potent yet understated style, proving minimal music doesn’t have to compromise on impact for the dance.

Jurango - An Amorphous Mass

Bait's first various EP format release 'Baby Steps' is an exploration of steppers: pounding four to the floor kicks, organic percs and an overall 'elephant march' feel. Featuring tracks by five French producers, Strasbourg-based @orchidj (half of @orplusbe with Bait founder @beatricemasters), Bruxelles-based Moriiiis J., most-known for his broken-beat project @Kuna-Maze, as well as @Quasardub, whose name is well established in the dubstep world with releases on legendary UK labels such as Artikal and Deep Medi to name a couple. @agonsound (Few Tips/Trajectoire) & @c-line-technorama (Technorama)'s collaboration opens a door towards the more abstract and contemplative side of bass music with influences such as Shackleton, perfectly closing 'Baby Steps' VEP.
