Our next installment comes from Elan Vital Collective founders, Father Figure. The Project began in 2017 as the solo project of DJ/Producer, Matt Weishaupt. In 2022, longtime live collaborator, Matt McLaren, expanded into the engineering and production space. The now DUO is Influenced by both Golden Era NY Hip-Hop producers, like J.Dilla, DJ Premier, Pete Rock and the electronic and jam scene. Their sonic collages run the gamut stylistically from Electro Soul to Hip Hop to House and everything in between.

Following the huge success of his debut album ‘Caligo’, Spor has hooked up with powerhouse producer Memtrix to present ‘Memtrix & Spor: Darkest Hours’ forthcoming on Sotto Voce/Lifted Music.  The track will be released on 14th September. 

‘Darkest Hours’ begins with a stream of deep cinematic melodies progressing into a melting pot of cutting-edge bass sonics and crisp drum grooves; accompanied by ambient vocals. The B-side entitled ‘Super Trace’ unfolds as a dark roller combined with sharp percussion sounds, certain to get a dance floor moving.

With over 1 million views on his track ‘All You Are’ on YouTube and over 5 releases under his belt at the age of 19, this is the start of a long journey in the world of drum & bass for Memtrix. "Working with Spor has definitely been an eye opening and insightful experience,” he says, “but I think more than that it's just been really fun. It always seems really natural and fluent in the studio and we bounce ideas off each other really well I think. Obviously it's an absolute privilege for me to work with such a household name who's work I respect so much, and this release is something I'm really proud of and excited about."

From afro house to deep house, these songs reveal intimacy and self-reflection that shift from introspective to humorous and insanity.  We are all feeling restless, but we are understand our purpose. The "rapture" has often been hijacked by evangelicals to mean the end of time, but I prefer to believe in its initial definition of "a feeling of intense pleasure of joy." As we reach sixth week of quarantine, we are confronted with our sense of isolation, and it is getting harder each day.  We can't forget that this is all temporary, and that somewhere at the end of this road lies some sort of rapture.  This set was recorded in my bedroom to celebrate the birthdays of Nikki and Piper.

Two months into quarantine, and Lushpod #53 continues our shift into uncharted territory.  LP53 explores our uncertain future with a gusto and nostalgia that teeters on glee and melancholy.  From the opening song of David Gahan covering U2's So Cruel to the closing track by Tycho, I hope this Lushpod provides a sense ease and comfort.  LP53 features tracks from Magnetic Fields, Axel woman, Optick, James Blake, ATFC, Chaim, Jonas Rathsman, Marian Hill, and Dauwd.

This set was a collaboration of DJ Dane and Bisi livestreamed on August 2, 2020 on the slopes of Mt Tamalpais in Mill Valley, CA. 

Dawn Diaries is inspired by the belief that the best way to start every day is with a celebration of the sun that shines through the darkness, our bodies that feel the warmth and the music that moves us. How we wake sets the tone for our day and how we live each day sets the tone for our lives.

To start our days in celebration with music and dancing has the power to transform us, unlocking the ever-present freedom, love and happiness that can easily be muted by our daily routine. My hope is that Dawn Diaries can be a part of this transformation.

Dawn Diaries are mini-mixes that go great with coffee, morning showers and getting ready for work. Solo or group dancing, bouncing, singing and smiling are all highly encouraged.

Lushpod #55 was recorded in Uplifter's Ranch, in the same neighborhood that Frank Baum wrote the Wizard of Oz.  From the frenetic spoken words of Kate Tempest to tracks from Husky, Joe Vannelli, Citizenn, Animal Trainer, Guy Gerber, and Idris Elba, this mix vibrates in ebbs and flows.
