You can think of the ‘health pass’ in France like a hall pass to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test before seeing a movie. Or going to a museum. But for Caroline — one of the many ‘gilets jaunes’ who showed up to protest the measure at Bastille in Paris — it’s George Orwell’s 1984 Big Brother nightmare come to life. 

More than 160,000 people marched across France with some clashes with armed police on Saturday to denounce the new sanitary measure.

To choose health or civil liberty

When unaccompanied minors arrive in France, the first thing they have to do is prove that they're under 18 to apply for child social welfare. If they fail to prove their minority, many of them end up living on the streets. Lucy Martirosyan hhas the story.
