Exclusive Luis Junior 'Ipsum (Stereocalypse Remix)'

Catalogue #21 of Berlin based and Andre Lodemann run label Best Works Records comes from Spanish producer Luis Junior, who delivers two original cuts, '2db2' and 'Ipsum', while the latter gets the remix treatment from label honcho Andre Lodemann & Fabian Dikhof and Italian in-demand-duo Stereocalypse. Enrico de Vecchi and Andrea Doria alias Stereocalypse have been responsible for some of the most tremendous club hits in the recent past. First the duo remixed 'I Don't Know' by WhoMadeWho last year, while this year 'Blue Dome Escargot' was released on Innervisions' 'Secret Weapon, Pt. 10'. Now Enrico and Andrea come up with another potential hit as their remix for Luis Junior got all the ingredients that it takes to be leave a remarkable impression on dance floors. Starting off with wobbling synth chords that accompany the listener throught the first part in various tonalities Stereocalypse then include the hunting vocal from the original, enhance it and make it sound like a regular sound-element of the track. The remix then bundles its synergies to hit dancing heads and headphone enthuasiasts with an inclusion of the slighty changed synth-chords from the original that add both to the track: pace and a  ravey touch. Latter peaks when the dry yet groovy bassline and the aforementioned synth-melodies are added some piercing synth that seem to have arrived from 'Another Earth'. With their remix for 'Ipsum' Stereocalypse remind its listeneres of the beauty of well-chosen tonalities in combination with a pure and raw bassline.

‘Energy Success’ is an immense construction. An intense narrative with full suspense and release through its bewildering staccato synth riff, this drives and drives until you don’t think it can twist any further… Only to find it does. 

‘Ways’ takes us even deeper into Luis’s cosmic universe as a beautiful humanoid texture provides the lead while big washes sweep in the background. Gently rising with layers of positivity and musicality, there’s bewildering magic laced deep into the soul of the track… Something that label boss Super Flu complement in a completely flipped way with the remix. Taking the chords and building them around tightly plucked instrumentation, there’s a pensive sense of drama running throughout. 

Elsewhere ‘Reality’ is every bit the jolt its name suggests. Strident, pulsating with a theatrical edge, this lives in its own lane. A true 1am level-raiser, this is the quintessential ‘no-turning-back’ track when the late night massive slip into top gear. 

Finally ‘This Is Now’ closes the EP with a stark, stripped back march that rasps with alien dub delays and a time-bending sense of technoid trippiness. Marking a milestone for their fledgling label, Adana Twins present the very first Various Artists compilation to be released on TAU. ‘Spektrum’ comprises eight fresh cuts from a diverse lineup of artists representing the Twins’ community of friends and musical acquaintances. In keeping with TAU’s ethos there are lesser-known talents side by side with more established exponents of the underground.

The VA kicks off with the Adana Twins themselves, delivering the melodrama on a cut named ‘Jumanji’. The rhythm is simple yet deadly, with a juddering low end and spinetingling synth lines. The tension builds gently, until we reach a crescendo towards the end of the track. Innellea is next with ‘The Things We’ve Accomplished Together’, a dark cut underpinned by a dour atmosphere. The main riff feels familiar as it increases the pressure, rousing you into a state of ecstatic energy. Ede & John Falke take us into dark wave territory with their moody cut, which feels as though it’s come straight from eighties synth heaven. Next we take a trip into the humid canopies of the jungle with Santiago Garcia & Speaking In Tongues. ‘Lost In A Jungle’ features a myriad of exotic sounds, tribal rhythms and percussion straight out of the Amazon. Enchanting mysti- cism and wild allure make this one a very special cut indeed.

Track 5 is Mulya & Sobek’s ‘Upfront Venture’, a simmering journey into the depths. A modulated low end grumbles and snarls, increasing the tension alongside a dainty riff. Steadily building into a breakdown that will send shivers down your spine. This is followed by more tribal-inspired music, this time from Nenor & Eyal Rob who use indigenous vocal clips and organic-sounding drums to create a mesmerising composition on ‘Odehya Nbiya’. Luis Junior plays with our minds on ‘Tuning Instruments’, a playful motif forms the main body of this cut, which is twisted and warped during an epic breakdown, before we’re treated to a soothing bassline. Last up, German don Daniel Bortz takes us ‘Down To The Moon’ with an exquisite roller full of dreamy atmospherics and laid back vibes. A fitting finale to an excellent collection of music.
