Normal People returns this Friday, this time with one of the show's co-founders, Alexey Makarenko. True to his spirit of exploration, he will create a spellbinding whole both soothing and at times eerily unsettling. This episode is a dive into the abyss of free forms of jazz, a throw on the sharp edges of overloaded electronics, and an enveloping calm with blissful ambient.

1. What was your inspiration for the mix? 

This time I aimed to create an atmospheric and textured slow mix featuring mostly broken rhythms, gradually speeding up as the composition unfolds. I concluded my set with a selection of drum and bass tracks, inspired by recent parties I've attended. I found that currently this genre resonates perfectly with my musical taste.

2. How do you think your local music scene has shaped your sound as an artist / approach to nightlife? 

At the beginning of my musical journey it was the local scene, where I spent countless nights partying, that became the place for me to gain the knowledge and skills necessary for playing sets. However my musical taste is now evolving independently - I rarely go to parties and mostly appear in clubs when I’m performing. Despite that I still have a few friends from local scene, with whom I happily exchange discovered musical gems - I believe their contribution to my development as an artist is invaluable.
