"O som não pode propagar-se no espaço, pois, nesse ambiente, existe o vácuo. Por não haver moléculas no ambiente, as ondas sonoras não são transmitidas, e o resultado de uma explosão no espaço, por exemplo, seria o silêncio. Além da existência de moléculas no meio, o som também se relaciona com a disposição dessas moléculas. Assim, quanto maior a proximidade dessas moléculas, mais rapidamente as ondas sonoras propagam-se, por isso, a velocidade do som nos sólidos é maior que nos líquidos e gases.
