Mut der Träumer

Ich nehme euch mit in ein kleines Dorf in den Bergen. Der dritte Advent rückt mit großen Schritten näher und wir müssen noch unser Versprechen einlösen, den schönsten Weihnachtsbaum zu schlagen den wir finden können. Trotz Unwetterwarnung, der erste Schneesturm des Jahres steht unmittelbar bevor, brechen wir auf um unser Versprechen einzulösen. Warm eingepackt geht es auf den Berg in ein Waldstück mit großen und wunderschönen Tannen. Die Suche nach dem perfekten Baum gestaltet sich als schwieriger als gedacht, denn es gibt einfach zu viele schöne Bäume. Gerade als wir die Entscheidung getroffen haben, trifft uns der Sturm mit all seiner Wucht. Heftige Böen und starker Schneefall erschweren das Schlages des Baumes und den Transport ins Dorf. Auf dem Weg zurück in Tal trägt der Sturm immer wieder das Glockengeläut den Berg hinauf, vereinzelt ist sogar die Chorprobe für das bevorstehende Weihnachtsfest zu hören. Zu Hause angekommen gilt es die Kälte loszuwerden. Wir bereiten uns einen leckeren und heißen Glühwein zu, starten die Soulful Story #5 und schmücken den Baum zu entschleunigenden Klängen.

In the summer of 2024, we had the pleasure of opening the night at our home base, Complex Maastricht, with a 3-hour warm-up set ahead of Amsterdam-based artist D-Stone. This time, we took things a bit slower — exploring the smoother side of our sound with blends of disco and funky house grooves. A proper build-up to set the tone for the night!

Obwohl ich seit Jahren keine Nachrichten mehr konsumiere, kann ich mich der aktuellen Berichterstattung nur schwer entziehen. Egal wo man hinschaut, 2 Personen sind momentan omnipräsent. Ich weiß nicht, wie es euch geht, aber ich komme mir vor in einer nicht enden wollenden Folge von „Pinky und der Brain“ gefangen zu sein. Da gibt es das narzisstische Staatsoberhaupt, das in gewohnter Manier poltert und schreit, auf Konventionen scheißt und nach Belieben Lügen und Desinformation verbreitet und das Ganze als Redefreiheit betitelt. Es sollen Meere umbenannt und einzelne Regionen sowie ganze Länder mal eben übernommen werden. Als Adlatus fungiert ein ebenso narzisstischer Tech-Milliardär, welcher sein Ego als Best Buddy des Erstgenannten aufpoliert. Er versucht sich als großer Reformer und maßt sich ganz nebenbei an, die politischen Belange souveräner Staaten beeinflussen zu müssen. Dank Pinky und Brain steht die ganze Welt Kopf und der Wahnsinn gipfelt darin, dass nach Jahren des Kaputtsparens über ungebremste Verschuldung für maximale Aufrüstung diskutiert wird. Das Ganze ist so skurril, dass man meinen könnte in einer satirischen Unterhaltung Show gefangen zu sein, leider ist es trauriger Alltag.

Wir halten uns für so intelligent und hochentwickelt und dennoch braucht es nach wie vor Waffen zur gegenseitigen Abschreckung? Was nützt der ganze Fortschritt, wenn wir beim Blick in den Spiegel immer noch den Steinzeitmenschen sehen? In mancherlei Hinsicht unterscheidet uns nur die Art der Kriegsführung von den Neandertalern. Es ist einfach unfassbar traurig, dass die seit Jahrzehnten bekannten zentralen Probleme immer noch nicht gemeinschaftlich angegangen werden. Jeder ist nur auf seinen eigenen Vorteil bedacht und es braucht wie in der Vergangenheit nur ein paar wenige Idioten mit zweifelhaftem Charakter, um die Welt ins Wanken zu bringen. Von diesen Idioten scheint es gegenwärtigen immer mehr zu geben, NARF!!!

Similar Clouds are two brothers from the Netherlands who are known in the undergorund House scene for their groovy sound which goes from deeper house grooves to nu disco. The guys are the first artists who played a 60 minutes set full of lovely tunes for us at our decks, which is mainly from the softer part of their music spectrum. The 40th release from Clubsonica Records welcomes Paul Kardos to the label for his debut single. The Hungarian artist is fresh off his best year to date, highlighted by releases on Perspectives Digital and Soundteller Records. The Hernan Cattaneo favourite now begins 2018 with the much anticipated ‘Main Theme' alongside remixes from Soluna, Dimuth K and Federico Monachesi.

Known for his groovy, melodic take on progressive house Paul puts his best foot forward with ‘Main Theme'. Beginning with warm, pulsating beats and shimmering atmospheres it's an inviting first act. Sleek, meditative arps push the narrative further into dreamy territory as spacey effects and driving percussion fill in the framework. Playful and emotive, the main break proves to be the perfect centerpiece with its lighthearted mood and smooth yet powerful drop. 

The first interpretation of ‘Main Theme' is provided by Soluna who is making his fifth appearance on the label. As one of Clubsonica's core artists, the Colombian has grown into a master storyteller, with many of his productions passing the ten minutes threshold and unfolding into captivating journeys. His ‘Main Theme' interpretation is no different coming in just under ten minutes and offering a wealth of scintillating sonic artefacts. It's smooth first act is both emotive and anticipatory, leading to an expansive break. At just over two minutes the centerpiece is a journey through cross cultural motifs and mesmerizing electronics, almost trance-like in a way and building in waves before the groove does finally drop for that magic moment. 

One of 2017's hottest new names in progressive house was undoubtedly Dimuth K. The Sri Lankan artist racked up production credits on Balkan Connection, Movement Recordings and Proton's Particles. Now returning to Clubsonica following a remix of ‘Yes I Do' by Movemé, Dimuth puts his own unique twist on ‘Main Theme'. Buzzing synths and a rolling groove immediately grab your attention while the primary motif delicately gets worked into the mix. Its vivacious energy carries wonderfully into the main break where astral moods and decayed sonics capture your imagination, before the serene narrative transitions the piece to a whimsical finale. 

The third and final interpretation of ‘Main Theme' is provided by Federico Monachesi who is making his first appearance on the label. The Argentinean artist has always chosen his projects wisely with 2017 seeing releases on Movement Recordings, Soundteller Records and Stellar Fountain. Long noted for his pristine production Federico closes the release out strong with a superb rendition of ‘Main Theme'. Backed by a spacious groove the mood is funkier, with broader appeal and yet no less emotive. Distinctive vocal samples and a simple but effective take on the original theme works wonders, while a celestial break serves to shift the narrative momentarily, setting up an even groovier third act. A wonderful remix from Federico which rounds out another strong offering from Clubconica Records. Don't miss it.
