and if the trees can blossom in the summer 
why can’t i grow the flowers in my chest?

why can’t the things around me, oh their beauty
caress my senses longer, as i yearn for rest?

the honey driven smell of orange blossom
doesn’t impress my stubborn self

and as the weather itches to be warmer 
i’m in no rush to wear a summer dress

a springtime bird’s call haunts me as it lingers -
it angers me when it shakes me awake.

and as i wait through another change of seasons
i am reminded i’m to spend them with myself
