With Visited by Strangers, Pablo Betas returns to the melodic roots of his musical practice as Bungalovv. The release's introspective, even tender, sound marks a shift away from the aggression of his previous work, while retaining the cinematic flair and painterly texture that have become trademarks of the Argentinian musician's sound.

Composed during the pandemic, Visited by Strangers is nevertheless decidedly collegial, with four of its seven tracks being (remote) collaborations with other artists. Notably, it includes Bungalovv's first-ever tracks to feature guest vocalists, and the release is also strewn with field recordings sent from a friend who was under lockdown on an Argentinian peninsula.

These conditions mean that Visited by Strangers is charged with the tension between strangeness and familiarity, or intimacy and distance. As song titles such as "Sharing Spells" and "Last Videocall" suggest, the tracks here evoke a world where human connection is mediated in fragile and fleeting, yet beautiful, ways.

This is not me. I am not a soldier in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, wearing my father's wartime uniform, on a laptop in a basement somewhere. I am an experimental producer.

This is not me. I did not produce these wonders of soundwave, I did not mix the remix and master the masterpiece. I am a soldier in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, wearing my father's uniform.

But a heart is a heart and there are eleven hearts here and they are S280F and Grischa Lichtenberger and Angelo Harmsworth and Galen Tipton and sv1 and trngs and Sara Persico and Hwoaranng and Ludwig Wandinger and Ross Alexander and John Object. I am a file on their drives and they are the song in my heart.

The idea for a John Object compilation would seem obvious to some, as I really do know some of the greatest Ableton Live users to ever stumble upon this plane. I never had the heart to ask!

Ludwig Wandinger and Ross Alexander are two of my friends from Berlin, and they are, to date, the only people that made it their business to bring me to play in that blessed city. I played at 8MM Bar both times (that place is fucking sweet) at Salon Oblique events. Now, at this war, in what I can only describe as a gesture of love and tender caring, they called upon the geniuses of today to work on my work and provided me with an album where there could not be one. This is a remix compilation that I found out about only when it was already release-ready.

I really only could take one night off, walked to the nearest village, and my dear friend Andrii, a soldier himself, brought me my camera, and I titled the compilation in blood. Then for a month I worked on a .pdf booklet for the digital edition, that, really, tells the whole story.

I think this is probably the wildest, most advanced music ever to be released by a soldier in active service.

I can't adequately express the crushing magnitude of tenderness, love and gratitude that I feel towards every person involved.

This all happened only because Ross brought me to Berlin for Salon Oblique at 8MM Bar www.salonoblique.net, and then Ludwig brought me to Berlin to record with him and play at Salon Oblique again, and then because they cared about me, and because my friend Andrii brought me the camera and helped me find the right way to call this.

So much never happened, and so much never will, because of Russians and their deep-seated hatred of me, of everyone I love, and everyone Ukrainian. I am still at war and I am still under threat of violent death every day. Many people I knew and served with have already been murdered by Russians. I am just lucky.

Scores is a compilation exploring musical notations and how they can be interpreted as sounds. People have always tried to translate sonic expressions into visual cues that could be archived, passed down, and transformed back into music. 

From symbols to numbers, grids, staffs, figures or abstract shapes, several languages have been developed and continuously questioned to improve the ability to retain the emotion and meaning sounds can convey - what lies behind the veil.
 
What if this time, the notation would come beforehand?

The project unfolded in two phases. In the first one, visual artists from the Global URL Nation could propose one sheet of music score, free of interpretation. They were invited to play with musical notations and explore what it would even mean.

In the second phase, artists from GUN could pick one sheet and create a track trying to follow it as much as possible. It invited them to question music as a physical object, with its shapes, colors, textures and layers with the following :

__How is the overall composition? Are there any axis or lines that could be interpreted as a timeline or a melodic scale?
__How many discrete elements are in the image? How are they laid out?
__What are the shapes involved?  What is their scale? Do they have sharp or blurry outlines?
__What are the colors/textures used? How do they relate with each other in terms of tones, contrasts…?
__How are the different elements layered on top of each other? Are they superimposed or do they merge in some way?
__How would they translate them in musical terms, such as textures, notes, structures, timbres, rhythms, dynamics? 

It welcomed Bademjan, Baje Nunca, C+Vis, Capiuz, Clair X, C.T.A.A.M.  Ecovoron, Epiphagi, HeedLess, Mambo Kahn, migu, POL100, Yau Hei ASJ & Ziyiz for 14 tracks ranging from ethereal scorescapes to hyperstimulating scratches. Sounds and shapes weave together, blurring the boundaries between the two media to create one whole entity

For the final release of 2018, SVBKVLT are excited to announce the new EP from Mun Sing, the juddering solo project of Giant Swan‘s Harry Wright. 3 original tracks + remixes from Flora Yin-Wong and Osheyack

Mun Sing’s uncompromising ingenuity of sonic weaponry explores bone rattling, fragmented cyber grime and radioactive trap templates. An attack of fluctuating polyrhythms that pan from left to right creating a delirious effect. Amplified dissonant noise. Syncopated and visceral neo-EBM drum patterns that disintegrate, dissolve and accelerate then starkly shrink with an adrenaline fuelled industrial intensity.

Mun Sing is Wright’s tool to challenge the conventions and aesthetics of modern day club culture. To experiment with ideas of inclusivity and positivity, influenced by mainstream pop music by injecting pop’s marketing methods into the more serious, austere club world. Dance routines, obnoxious visuals and brash costumes all feature in the live show, where Mun Sing uses these elements as a means to highlight inclusivity, movement and fun.
