Amazing! Heard this on SOPHIA ZHURAVKOVA's NTS show

"Someone with a broken knee gets off the tram and their seat is taken by another person, also with a broken knee."

A moment passes and you find yourself staring at the door, supposing the number of limping people getting on the vehicle is stuck on a loop. You might think you've heard this one before. You might have an idea of what happens next. Your assumptions may or may not turn out to be true.

The focal point of 'key' revolves around repetition; a sequence developed, echoed, then disarranged. Try closing your eyes and imagining two people sitting across a wooden table conversing in patterns on a shared piece of paper. One pencil drawing a design, another disrupting it, going over the edges. Just when you start sensing what might follow, the sequence breaks and you find yourself being led in another direction.

Notice the images moving past your ears: a story told with a soft voice, a murmur, a hazy memory, a song that sticks with you throughout the day, but you can't recall its name or the artist who performed it, and there's no need to check. 

After reaching your destination, get on your feet, feel your knees cracking. Leave the tram, cherishing this hint of uncertainty.

This mix is the sound of hearts unraveling. Yawning Portal (@yawningportal) is an opening to other worlds: a transmutation, a prayer.

They wake with the taste of static on their tongue, echoes decay: the thread thins…there was never a first note. The atmosphere is serene and distant, with light piercing through swirling mist. Water flows gracefully through the crevices, reflecting shimmering silhouettes — a quiet beauty, gentle and warm, like the shape of love.

Hailing from London, this duo excels at capturing the intricate textures of sound, moving seamlessly between delicate field recordings and refined sampling. They released their debut EP Heart and Earth in 2020 via PLZ Make it Ruins and have since released singles via Odyxxey, Slagwerk, Club Paradiso & 29 Speedway and YEAR0001’s RIFT compilation. They scored Lydia Ourahmane’s immersive installation Survival in the Afterlife at Portikus, Frankfurt alongside an hourlong digital release Notice the Direction of Fires and collaborated with Ourahmane again to score the film Tassili; the film has since been presented at museums and institutions internationally. Since 2020 they have hosted under sleepy moon, a monthly show on NTS radio.

Josephine Moriko is in Sweden. innerinnerlife is in Poland. ‘Emociones / Prior’ is in the world, and out on New York City’s OST.

The dark balearia of ‘Emociones’ marries innerinnerlife’s warm, slowly unfurling synth pads to a yearning, autotuned Moriko vocal, swirling and swaying in the sultry riptide of the instrumental. It’s drama in slow motion, a heart-stopping moment caught and crystallised in memory, played and replayed again and again.

‘Prior’ walks a dimly lit route, white linen on a nighttime beach, inner turmoil by a romantic backdrop. Moriko’s coldly intoned vocals carry secrets and intrigue, whispering about longing and addiction over a flickering phantomscape. It haunts and hits in equal measure.

It’s a gripping statement piece from two artists with rare, idiosyncratic points of view and frames of reference. Two songs forged under candlelight and sculpted from afterglow. Two songs that hold a shadow world of style and seduction, passion and poison, black roses and green-eyed envy. Two songs made to transport. Two songs for you.
