Schrödinger’s Box found a true audio delinquent when they discovered Rapha. Resident at Alphabet Club in Tel Aviv, this is a musician who creates tracks with a punk attitude and a painted acid smile. The co-founder of Chateau Royal arrives with four blistering numbers for our box. After the pounding percussion and 303 smears of “Ivanka”, this sidewinder synthesist unfurls the brooding darkness that is “Transform.” Lighter tones pierce the gloom in the carefully crafted “Visionia” before The Exaltics lands for some deep and dreamy electro with an incredible remake of “Voyager101.” Rapha’s original of “Voyager101” closes the 12”. Rasping rhythm patterns cut a path for rich dauby analogue bars in this stripped-back, late-night close.

Transient Nature is a label dedicated to the world of machine funk with a sonic aesthetic of off-kilter techno and electro, and the first release sees Dukwa deliver an EP as varied as it is powerful. Transient Nature has a busy 2021 planned with releases from Detroit's Scan7, Black Cadmium and Maarten's solo project: Wanderist. The 'Think Potential' EP is deeply rooted in gritty electronics and illustrates the producer's love for hardware and vintage techniques - three of the tracks are hardware jams recorded straight to tape.
The driving Rhodes licks and fluttering percussion on 'Who Cares' gets the EP rolling before the distorted electronica and stabbing 303s fuse harmoniously on 'High Position'. Up next, 'It's U' delivers an old-school tinged electro number with its slamming drums, robotic vocals and squeaking acid lines. The EP closer, 'Eye2eye' sees Dukwa moving deeper into the electronica territory with industrial drums and dreamy piano lines working together with mesmerising effect.  With recent output ranging from Detroit house inspired MPC-driven tracks to more conceptual electronic work, Dukwa's soulful yet dynamic releases for the likes of Numbers, Don't Be Afraid and his eponymous imprint have won a wide range of support as well as picking up a coveted 'Hottest Record in The World' from the BBC's Annie Mac.

Following the release of Twisted Heads comes Slacker’s most complete work to date. The artist's debut LP - What Would I Do With Saturn - arrives on Lobster Theremin on Friday 2nd July and demonstrates Slacker’s killer ear for capturing the cross-sections that exist within UK sound; floating between the artist's drum & bass upbringing and introspective, world-building electronica. 

‘As I Fear The Ground Opening’ represents the anxious rush when the bubbles start to rush and your time of total freedom reaches its inevitable end; it’s frantic drum patterns scoring an intense scene, trancey atmospherics enticing you to keep turning the corner. ‘Unturned’ continues down the cinematic route, before the B-side introduces Slacker’s breaks heritage: ‘One Hundred Ideas’ sounding reminiscent of the fire wave of experimental, stripped-back percussion currently championed by the likes of Al Wooton and his TRULE label; green fields, optimism and wicked breaks. 

‘My Own Moon’ channels open-the-clubs energy with a percussive melter, before completing the B-side with a call to arms on ‘The New Face of England’; it’s trap-techno energy encapsulating the anger and frustration felt in the face of rising English nationalism. 

Staying true to the testament of his most complete work to date, Slacker relentlessly switches up his sonic palette in pursuit of differing - yet uniquely connected - experiences, entering future-electro territory on the C-side; ‘Nothing Is Enough’ giving off Tron Legacy largeness - temporarily paused by the emo-ambience of ‘the myth of visibility’ - before ‘Void Hopping’ crashes back down to earth with that rough-edged, raw aesthetic that has become so synonymous with the Slacker name. 

The climatic D-side provides the most mixed bag yet; ‘Prisoner Of War’ opening an unmarked door as we venture further into the UK’s underground; the smells and sights of a packed-out jungle rave being expressed through ripples, blares and vaporous breaks, while the nostalgia inspired ‘Summer Of ‘18’ - featuring Guy Liner - offers a synthy, nu-disco vibe that manages to incorporate the emotional aesthetic that has been built throughout the album. 

‘let these waves wash upon’ you draw the curtains as we take a deep breath to venture back into a scary world that lies beyond the door. A world of dreams, fears, love and sadness. Optimism, hopelessness, anxiety and inspiration. The world is opening up, and Slacker’s rise is imminent.

Berlin based Irish producer Maurice Anthony Moran is one interested in the technical side of music production, and how we utilize modern day technologies. 
Having had a long standing interest in music from a young age, Maurice was never consciously aware that it is something he would want to do. However Maurice emerged from a dark period of his life, purely through his discovery of his musical ambition. 
While at the start of his journey Maurice had a keen interest in DJing, he now is more interested in the art of production and live performance.
Currently studying a bachelors degree at Catalyst Berlin, Maurice has unlocked new conceptual doors within his mind, with a strong emphasis around technology and how it can be used to further develop electronic music.

For his first major project, Maurice has developed his album ‘Life after Roland’, 7 tracks that aim to highlight and tackle genre conventions in electro, specifically the use of vintage drum machines such as the Roland TR-808.
In the creation of the album Maurice wanted to explore a wide variety of different styles within the drums and composition of the music, while creating overall continuity. To highlight the deep exploration, he chose to pick a handful of less orthodox ways of making drums.
The most consistently used method throughout the album is the design of a basic set of drum sounds within Max/MSP, while physical modelling synthesis also features among others.

To accompany the release, Maurice chose to carry out 2 public displays, a live set of the album and an interview with an established artist within the scene, Volruptus.
The interview aims to open up to viewers on the workflow of Volruptus, while also gauging his opinion on topics Maurice is aiming to address, from a technical and a conceptual standpoint.

The live set is a display of how each track ties together one by one, while also using technologies such as OSC to make audio reactive gestures within the music from Maurice’s phone sensors.
The emphasis of the performance is within drums, and all elements within the stream will be reactive to the drums, from text to visuals.

The album is to be self released on Bandcamp on the 24th of May 2021, and will begin a stagnated premiering from the 13th of May.
Going forward Maurice aims to continue this project in the design of a software drum machine for people to utilize in the same easily accessible way as the Roland TR-808 is available.

It pays to be vulnerable, they say it all the time. They say it enough to be true. Nonetheless, the old world remains, and one should pick their moments. Vulnerability is a two-way street, and there are often roadworks, the smell of tar and the ear-splitting assault of drills, sensory tedium outside the dry cleaners, opposite the school and adjacent to the train station. They say there’s ample free parking, but when you get there, there’s only so much space to take.

Berlin-based label Hot Concept continues an unpredictable journey with a new artist introducing themselves to the roster, loket. First emerging via their own cult mix for the Deep Mind Music series, their debut full release, out digitally now and on limited-edition tape soon, taps three original productions that blend live saxophone modulation with influences within the ambient, trance and hardcore continuum.

Accompanying this hugely original trio are two remixes from London’s Jay Duncan, each taking on a radically different tempo. While the ‘Spirit of Sabre’ version zones in on psychedelic chug, the ‘Infinity Mix’ premiering here today ramps up the energy but loses none of the detail.

“The main idea was to think 'what would an outside observer to our planet think when looking down at this moment in time, what does the moon think when looking down on us?'” he says. “It was a way of me both building another world whilst also expressing the strife of the world that we were living in. I was lucky enough to be quite secluded in the first lockdown around a lot of nature, but then feeling the isolation ten-fold as I was so far away from civilisation. I think that the album has this schism represented in it with the more classically "nice" tracks standing next to the more aggressive and expressive tracks; it is both an escape and capturing of the world we live in.”

*PREMIERE* Slacker - The Myth Of Visibility

The anticipation was almost too much to handle as they neared the derelict industrial estate. They'd almost forgotten this feeling after so long out of the game, but though it should have felt somewhat alien, the emotions soon came flooding back as the soft thud of a kick drum echoed nearby. How they'd missed it; the sense of freedom these spaces gave them couldn't be replicated. Nothing could come close. 

Zodiac Childs return to their own Zodiac Wax imprint for their debut album 'Atoms To Atoms', which comes split across a three piece vinyl package. Like much of their previous work, this long player is a homage to the pair's love of classic breaks and the UK's hardcore legacy, representing the past, present and future of their sound. Employing analogue synthesis and hardware they play with emotion and energy to produce a collection of tracks that transport the listener through 'the moods and feelings of a full night of rave experience'.

La Forge Musique thrilled to announce the release of it's resident Shonen Bat’s first album. Following his involvement in label compilations and a few brief incursions across the Channel for thier friends at Corrupt Data (see his EP “Shades of Disruption”) and GODDEZZ (see V/A “ON+ON+ON”), the 28-year-old producer from Reims eventually reaches the mark of the long-form, with flying colours indeed. In “Infinite Disorder”, he deftly conjugates techno influences, breakbeat, global club and electro with his distinctive rhythmic signature as well as outstanding futuristic aesthetic.
In twelve tracks, Shonen Bat demonstrates perfect mastery of sound design and narration in a fifty-minute opus with strains of solar punk, which resonates both on the dancefloor and your couch. An intertwinement of celestial voices, luxuriating pads and synthetic waterfalls with sharp beats and distorted bass precedes moments when the producer playfully stretches time with more ambient phases, before going for it again.
Among the top-flight tracks, you will find an ethereal anthem in “Artefacts”, speedy techno in “Western Nylon Fields”, and feisty breakbeats in “Automata”.
In this emotional roller coaster, the album constantly takes us back and forth between melancholy and euphory. Despite this duality symptomatic of our times, “Infinite Disorder” is undeniably a record of boundless optimism, at times bitter but always radiant. Take it as a kind of journal of a young raver who’s found his way through the philosophical values of a global rave culture, without borders, and humanistic.

The 9th release on Lisbon's dance agitators Rave Tuga is on the way: an EP, available on tape and digital by local mainstay Diogo who's been loyally serving the dancefloors of Lisbon in the past few years via his sick DJing and productions. Recruits for the remixer role are other two legends of our scene: genius clubkid Stasya and spot-on dance composer Moreno Ácido

Acid and jacking flavours gladly meet again, with an added ray of local sunshine, on the opener 'Paz d'Alma'. The skillfully programmed 303 lines keep going throughout the album, on the A3 accompanied by a sick electro groove and emotional pads and some bleepy chill-packed vibes on the A4.

The B side switches gears into techno territory, with steady hi hats guiding the groove; relentlessness pervading on 'Brick & Mortar'. Stasya steps in to remix the title track with a dramatic take chock-full of hyperpop stabs, sentimental chipmunk vocals and re-constructed clubby beats, the Lisbon way. Moreno Ácido takes the scenic route with dubbed out harmonies and warm, blissed-out beats and bass.

All proceeds from this EP will go to HuBB - Humans Before Borders, a platform for action against inhumane and illegal treatment of migrants and refugees.
