A new sound work commissioned by Lydgalleriet, as part of the Vibrational Semantics project. 

Lisa Busby is a musician, artist and open water swimmer based on the West coast of Scotland. 

Production and musical settings of sound work in collaboration with John Harries. 


Vibrational Semantics explores the voice’s ability to shift seamlessly between signification and sonority, from speech sound to noise. Questions of linguistic ambiguity, embodied voicing and feeling/ meaning are investigated in relation to the place and presence of the performed voice. 

The project is part of Samuel Brzeski’s ongoing artistic engagement with Lydgalleriet, involving several newly commissioned text works curated by Samuel and commissioned by Lydgalleriet.

In October 2017 an experiment was conducted. At the Bergen Kringkaster on Askøy Island, two participant's brainwaves were sonified using psychotronic EEG technology. These signals were transmitted via amateur radio, bouncing off the different layers of the ionosphere, brushing up against cosmic particles, and exiting the atmosphere into space. An outdoor radio station in the Svartediket valley was set up to coordinate and record the process.

With a starting point in her ongoing exhibition NOÖSPHERE, Erin Sexton presents her artistic practice, work and methodologies in conversation with Lydgalleriet's curator Julie Lillelien Porter.
Erin Sexton is a Canadian artist who explores the poetics of theoretical physics and science fiction, imagining speculative futures through her play with materials, technology, and everyday objects.

John Brennan is a sound artist, drummer, and new music curator living in Vancouver, Canada. Within all aspects of his practice, improvisation  is at the center.  

His current projects include dashes, with Elisa Ferrari, and organs without bodies, Jacob Audrey Taves. John has  also collaborated with Raven Chacon, Chris Corsano, Greg Saunier, Marshall Trammell, Aine O'Dwyer among others. 

In recent years, his work on performance and improvisation has expanded to include sound installations and sound sculptures that consider the relationship between the sonic memory of musical instruments,  performance, and improvisation.
