Description:
“War Music” is a 43 minute sound collage by Kristoffer Højkvist made as an atmospheric auditory companion for art exhibition “Stor//Age” by german artist Lucas Kober. It is a continuous piece of music which contains six parts. It is built around a base of a seven-hour master recording in a silo in southern Denmark May 26th 2016 featuring five Lydkammerat musicians. The group installed microphones from the roof of the thirty-meter silo and around the 15 meter wide floor. The intention was to capture as much as the amazing natural reverb as possible.
In the sampling process, several overdubs(field recordings and studio recordings) and effects were added to the final collage. The structure of the piece was developed in collaboration between Kristoffer and Lucas’ storyline behind his work, from which there were made rough cuts in the master recording to exemplify the story as clear as possible in the music. The piece premiered at the vernissage of Lucas’ exhibition in Hamburg the 10th of July 2016.
