Carte blanche à Méryll Ampe
sur la notion d'inattendu dans l'improvisation et la composition

wi watt’heure #36 est une carte blanche à l’artiste sonore Méryll Ampe. Formée en sculpture et en arts visuels, Méryll explore la plasticité et la matérialité du son via des expérimentations empiriques et des questionnements de mise en espace. Les jeux rythmiques de percussions, le silence, la résonance, les matières (plâtre, terre…) ou autres phénomènes sonores sont les matériaux à la base de son travail, qui prend la forme de performances sonores, installations, sculptures, volumes et dessins. 

Nous avons invité Méryll à rentrer en résonance et répondre à notre observatoire des différences à partir de sa connaissance de la scène électronique et expérimentale et de son positionnement social. Dans ce numéro #36, elle partage avec nous un moment de recherche  et propose une forme singulière, entre le journal intime et le carnet radiophonique :

« Pour wi watt’heure, j’imagine une trame, un circuit empirique dont le support sera un journal sonore. Un espace en mouvement, dans une dynamique intérieure/extérieure. Des enregistrements de mon quotidien seront orientés sur mes recherches actuelles qui font apparaître des questions sur la manière d'appréhender le médium sonore ainsi que le processus de composition et d’improvisation » (Méryll Ampe).

Dans son atelier, elle convoque trois autres artistes – Michèle Bokanowski, Valérie Vivancos et Nina Garcia – à venir dialoguer avec elle, en distanciel, de la notion d'inattendu dans l'improvisation et la composition. Ces conversations sont entrelacées avec les musiques dans un va et vient entre l'espace de l’atelier, les entretiens, et le concert.

Title: CYSP - S/T (LP)

A mysterious musical outfit said to be consisting of two Swedes with affinity for frog-esque sounds and post-trance aesthetics makes out what is CYSP. CYSP is also an acronym of CYbernetic SPatiodynamic, aka the first spatio-dynamic sculpture, having total autonomy of movement as well as axial and eccentric rotation. The sculpture is celebrated as an early work of cybernetic character that made it into the world of art. Now how do these two phenomena relate to each other? I have no clue..

This sounds like it could have been crafted in an eerie barn in the remote countryside, serving as a never-released soundtrack to an occult underground 90's film about urban trolls - it also sounds like it could be glued-together cassette scraps laying around Richard H Kirk's studio.

Laden with an almost grotesque amount of soundscaping, synthesized quirks and sonic riddles that would positively provoke any attentive listener (dancer?), it’s still weirdly danceable in the most head banging sense of the word. While pulling from the past - and meta-versically - the past’s image of the future, this is highly contemporary music - smart and stupid, deep and shallow - physical and cybernetic.
