Alma Mitchell Field Recording: Satin bowerbird
The satin bowerbird was one of Alma's favourite birds, particularly for its excellent mimicry. This recording from an unmarked tape has Alma commenting on two birds, a male and sub-adult, displaying and calling, including mimicking other birds. This species inhabits the wet sclerophyll forest of eastern Australia, so this recording could have been made at Sherbrooke Forest, in the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne, where Alma often took her recording equipment to tape the birds.
