Cousins + Mommy’s sister, cause I’ll help out each day.
So as a younger schoolgirl, had no friends, or a need for play.
Befriended reading, lessons, books and homework class extended,
But to my dismay made Head-Girl the teachers ALL commended.

Didn’t know that jealousy would lead to my demise, 
The naive type housegirl, nanny babyminder they despised!
When bullying happens at home, abused plus made a slave,
Couldn’t take it anymore – fowl play, MAN. U … away.

The only option left for me not rotting in that dungeon, 
was moving in to live with unknown family in London.
Your sister and your Mother may be fun and warm and girly.
No so unfortunately see for me we split too early.

Yet once again, like dejavous summoned and called for duty,
Just really presses on your heart when ‘family’ show cruelty, 
An African in the UK it’s natural and expected,
Pick up children, cooking, cleaning being disrespected.

This carried on and on meanwhile my studies kept me focused,
Without a penny poor, I studied law and left the locusts.
New friends at Uni let me stay on sofas fears diminished,
With favours, faith, and different places made it to the finish.

A female graduate, a rented space and job succession, 
Feeling so strong plus moving on …then BAM hit the recession!
With angry talks both back and forth, landlord then tried to punish, 
Through screams and shouts, still got thrown out, bag, cases, box & rubbish.

Hours went by, day turned to night, both sky and spirits fallen.
A passer by gave blessed advise on hostels council - call them.
Had never known to find such help, and feared all things appalling.
Today am blessed, work, place of rest, Gods glory ends my story.

Everything we know and love today about the 80's and 80's Culture, was and is so very different for the people of Srebrenica, Bosnia. 

11 July 1995. Unbelievably brave survivors of this horrendous genocide. Mothers who have recently laid their beloved children to rest, others still in desperate DNA search for even the most minuscule reminder of this heart breaking pain. A large number of women, children and the elderly forcibly deported, raped as well as right now, everyday people, trying, living and learning exactly how to re-understand life, remain hopeful and stay positive after the devastation of 8,372 Bosnian people systematically massacred and buried in mass graves in Europe just over 20 years ago.

On meeting, feeling, seeing and hearing the poignant accounts first hand from the survivors and residents, Artist & Performance Poet LyricL interprets those creative truths through a Spokenword piece entitled "She Laughed" written on her return to London, UK (October 2015), on arrival at London Heathrow Airport, with 'You Press' Manager Farah Mohammad and fellow Artist Creatives on the 'I Remember Srebrenica' project.
