Slow Cookin'

You'd think i'd celebrate the 100th edition of the monthly-ish show I started many years ago by making a big fuss about it... and I must admit I did overthink it for a little while. Lord knows I love all kinds of musical challenges and ideas, they're what keep me going. 

But actually wouldn't celebrating the 100th edition be even better if I just focused on what the inspiration behind show #1 was: simply to play recent discoveries (both new and old) that I'm excited to share with an audience -- namely, YOU!

Oh but one piece of exciting news for show #100. I have started a new radio residency with the fine folks from Brussels' KIOSK RADIO! That just might be the thing I needed to get back on a consistent pace. 

100 shows in, I still love sharing these musical treasures with you.

He is a DJ, producer, joint founder of the Hi-Hat club, creative brain behind AUDDA records, co-owner of the Groove Attack record store in Cologne, and lover of deep jazz and soul: Twit One is one of the hottest cats in the German beat-smith scene. He calls his own music Cool Bap style - a chilled blend of Boom Bap and soulful cool jazz, that he already presented to the world with several solo albums and EPs on labels like MPM, Entbs or his very own AUDDA imprint. For Carhartt WIP Radio Twit One mixed a show consisting of soon to be released and maybe never released material with involvement from the UK's Henry Wu, Lorenzo Merluzzo, US DJ, producer, singer/songwriter and trumpet player Miles Bonny and the quiet sounds of a grasshoppers swarm. LYSKTAPE 003 - Digging In India

For this month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show we bring you FloFilz, one of Germany’s most in-demand hip hop producers. Since 2013 he has released instrumental records on labels such as Melting Pot Music and Jakarta, with a style that seductively blends soul- and jazz-influenced grooves.

FloFilz’s first two albums as a beatmaker were collaborative works, and in late 2014 he released his first solo LP titled "Metronom". Four instrumental albums have since followed, cementing his reputation as jazz-connoisseur producer, who seeks to open up the genre to a new generation of listeners.

For his Carhartt WIP Radio show, he melds older work with tracks from his upcoming album "Transit". As usual we also sat down to speak to this month’s host, chatting about his upbringing, Bach and J Dilla, and his thoughts on Germany’s hip hop scene.
