This is another sort of off-the-cuff finger drum beat that I came up with late one night. Everything was recorded in Ableton using sounds from MPC Essentials, so no home made samples in this one. Some parts had maybe one layer overdubbed, but most of this was performed in live takes on the MPC.

The Outside

This is a multimedia piece that I started working on last year. It was arranged in Ableton but uses a multitude of different sounds and sound sources. Every sound was composed and performed by myself - on piano, drums, or MPC. PureData was used to manipulate some of the piano samples, there are a few Ableton effects used, then the rest of the piano and all of the drum samples were recorded with room microphones.

This piece represents an attempt at making "dance" music as opposed to the whacky art stuff that I've been making that draws on dance music. Initially I wanted to make a deep house song, so I slowed my metro to 105 BPM and made the first few grooves. Not quite what I had initially had in mind but okay, I liked it. I wanted another section and noticed the BPM, so I made a bounce groove. Things took a turn in a different direction when I started chopping up this poem and plugging in reconfigured pieces into the song, and then the rest was the "magic" of it happening. Overall I am very pleased with this. Not quite the dance anthem it could have been, but the I think the words make it catchier and give it some tangible meaning which makes it more relatable.

A remixed/updated version of a song I recorded over a year ago. Ryan Thomas Pearce told me that this was his favorite of the tracks I had produced up to that point, saying that "it has a weird groove." I'm renaming and rededicating it in his honor. RIP RTP we all love you <3
