When these two extraordinary musicians, Steve Lukather and Edgar Winter, came together on stage at the North Sea Festival 2000, they had already achieved legendary careers in their own right. Steve Lukather started as a studio musician before becoming a founding member of rockband Toto. His guitar style and influence can be heard on numerous albums of notable artists such as Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and Chicago. Having been influenced by Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton, Steve developed a guitar style, which paid tribute to both Rock and Jazz styles, playing with such perfection and intensity that you can still spot his influence among a thousand other guitarists. Edgar Winter is the younger brother of Johnny Winter. Having debuted at the Woodstock-Festival, he also fusioned Rock, Blues and Jazz since his first great successes in 1970. Working with musicians such as Rick Derringer, David Lee Roth and Ringo Starr, he was equally well prepared to team up with Steve Lukather.

Together with Phil Soussan (bass) and Gary Ferguson (drums) the concert at the North Sea Jazz Festival was not only a firework of improvisation, but an intense demonstration of the perfection and skills of Lukather and Winter. Feeling totally free from stylistic barriers, this concert is a perfect symbiosis of these two talents, presenting the best of Winter's collection ("Fly Away", "Frankenstein") and some breathtaking highlights penned by Lukather (as exemplified in his tearful tribute to Toto-Drummer Jeff Porcarco in "Song for Jeff"). A specific standout among the many other highlights of this concert is the medley of Rock 'n’ Roll classics. Summing up the genius of these two outstanding artists, their improvising on songs such as “Johnny B Good” and “Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On” remaining as colorful, fresh and dynamic, never to be heard before.

"Mirage" had been digitally remastered in the 80ties. Obviously, this version was taken for every further release (incl. the releases on Revisited Records/SPV and even the first re-issue on MIG Music). That is why MIG Music gave the project into the proven hands of Tom Dams for a new "40th Anniversary Edition" to finally restore the material. Now MIG Music is able to present a digital version of "Mirage" which is as close to its origin as possible. Unfortunately, it was not possible to provide the original material for the bonus track, but due to its historical significance we did not want to throw this track out.

Schulze‘s flexibility in voice and and the final product certainly show the bizarre winter scenery, especially the epic piece “Crystal Lake”, which is loved by Schulze fans all over the world

Velvet Voyage

After "Quiet Places" (2020) Andreas Vollenweider has grouped his music on his new album according to atmosphere and character: "Slow Flow" is a collection of pieces with a relaxed, flowing feel, while "Dancer" is full of movement and rhythm.

All 11 songs on "Slow Flow" and "Dancer" were created between 2010 and 2021 in collaboration with British producer Andy Wright (Eurythmics, Simply Red, Jeff Beck, Simple Minds, among many others). The two were supported in their creative process by Vollenweider's talented circle of friends, who laid the foundation for the songs: Walter Keiser (drums), Andi Pupato (percussion), Daniel Kueffer (bass clarinet), Oliver Keller (guitars) and the young Swiss rapper and beat boxer Steff La Cheffe, a.k.a. Stefanie Peter.

The music of "Dancer" also reflects Vollenweider's connection with Africa. The South African vocal harmony band Africapella and singer Ayanda Nhlangothi embody this connection.

The London Session Orchestra, consisting of musicians from the Royal Symphonic Orchestra under the direction of James McWilliam, filled out the sound. Renowned British producer and arranger Peter Vettese is responsible for most of the orchestration.

The recordings took place at Andreas' Lakeside Studios in Switzerland, as well as at SABC Studios in Johannesburg, South Africa, and finally at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. Andy Wright's long-time sound engineer Gavin Goldberg has set new sonic standards for Vollenweider's music with his work, and is able to delight even the most discerning audiophiles with a punchy yet transparent, dynamic soundscape.

Wucan is a german rock band from Dresden, who like to describe themselve as Heavy Flute Rock. If one is to dive deeper into the artistic creativity of the group, it becomes obvious, why regular genres won’t fit here. Multifaceted and playful they deliver psychedelic riffs, progressive song structures with folk elements here and there, since their first album. Wucan fears neither the soothing melodies, nor the tougher pace.

Reinventing themselve with every release, the band and it’s singer and multiinstrumentalist Francis tobolsky never looser their distinct features. Ranging from short proto-metal tracks to epic 15 minute tracks like “Wandersmann” of their debut album or „Aging 10 Years in 2 Seconds“ of their 2-LP follow up.

On September 10, 2021 Wucan performed in the well-known Blues Garage in Isernhagen near Hannover. And German radio station Deutschlandfunk recorded the show, the first live album of the band, energetic and pure.

Snake Charmer

38 Special was formed in 1974 by lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Donnie Van Zant (brother of Ronnie and Johnny Van Zant, both Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Don Barnes in 1974 in Jacksonville, Florida.

They are best known for their early 1980-ies hit singles "Hold On Loosely" and "Caught Up in You", along with other Top 40 Billboard Hot 100 chart entries in the 1980s and early 1990s, including "Rockin' into the Night" or "Wild Eyes Southern Boys". Their many Gold and Platinum album awards stand in testament to the endurance of a legendary powerhouse. Since 1976, when Lynyrd Skynyrd manager Peter Rudge signed them to A&M Records (their self-titled debut was produced by Edgar Winter's White Trash's Dan Hartman), the band has released more than 15 albums. and is still touring relentlessly, bringing their signature brand of ‘muscle and melody’ to the fans worldwide.

38 Special's "Live At Rockpalast 1981" show (Loreley, August 29, 1981, The Outlaws, Nine Below Zero and Thin Lizzy were in the festival line-up that day as well) was off the rails, an excellent high energy show. Vocals and sound were on point. The band looked like they were having just as much fun as the audience. This show is, indeed, a memento of an exceptional performance of this legendary Southern Rock band in Germany.

He has been travelling the world's stages for 35 years and has released 20 albums in the last 22 years on labels such as Provogue and Dixiefrog. He has shared the stage with colleagues such as Roy Buchanan, Stevie Ray Vaughan's mentor Lonnie Mack, Joe Walsh from the Eagles, Peter Green, Sting, ZZ Top and Bo Diddley. He represented Australia at the royal wedding of Prince Frederik and Princess Mary of Denmark, performed at the FIFA World Cup in Germany, played on almost every stage, from Australian high-security prisons to the Mozarthaus in Vienna.

Rob Tognoni is the "Tasmanian devil" (he is originally from Tasmania/Australia) on the guitar, his style is fiery, energetic, inventive and explosive. His roots are blues, blues-rock and classic rock, but he also draws on many other influences to give them his sound and uniqueness.

"I've always been a rebel to some, it's just that life is too short to try and please everyone. I love my fellow man but I always go by what burns inside and needs to surface. Freedom isn't just a word to remember, it has to be a lifestyle. The Phoenix is a symbol of rising, you have to keep rising above it all. With all that's rapidly changing in our world, I will still have my say, and on this album I've done exactly that, take a listen."

My Solid Ground were a German progressive rock band active in the 1970s. 

This obscure krautrock album called "My Solid Ground" from 1971 has long been considered a classic of the genre. The first track, the 13-minute 'Dirty Yellow Mist', certainly lives up to its reputation as the group embark on a dark space rock journey.
It sounds like a mixture of psychedelic rock and progressive rock.

With lots of long keyboard tones, a crunchy guitar riff, some acid guitar sounds and distorted chanting as well as some wordless vocals in higher pitches.

"That's You" has enough energy to pass for proto-punk, and the chorus of "Do you wanna die" doesn't detract from this impression.

The song "The Executioner" is a dark piece that alternates between echoing vocals and intense guitar solos. The songs on the album are characterised by catchy melodies, experimental sounds and lyrical lyrics.

If you are a fan of progressive rock or enjoy discovering new music, My Solid Ground could be an interesting choice for you.

Rolling Stone once called Inga Rumpf "Germany's only world-class rock, soul and gospel singer". In her long career, Inga "The Voice" Rumpf has made a name for herself as a singer with the City Preachers, as a jazz, blues, R&B and soul performer - but above all as a rock singer with Frumpy and Atlantis, bands that wrote German rock history in the 1970s.

With the City Preachers and the rock bands Frumpy and Atlantis, she celebrated international success five decades ago and toured with superstars B.B. King, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Lionel Richie. Tina Turner launched her global career with Inga's song "I Wrote A Letter" - the other side of the comeback single "Let's Stay Together".

In 2005, a dream came true when B.B. King invited Inga & Friends on his farewell tour. 2006 Inga Rumpf performs with her band Inga & Friends as part of the Crossroads Festival on October 20, 2006 at WDR Rockpalast. Inga's long-time companion from the old Frumpy / Atlantis days Jean-Jacques Kravetz (Peter Maffay Band, Udo Lindenberg Panik Orchester, Eric Burdon's Fire-Department and many more) will be at the start.

It's A Man's World - Live At Crossroads Festival October 20, 2006

After the success of their last release, “Music for Kings”, which more than ever presented Counter-World Experience as one of the most technically accomplished bands dedicated to Progressive Metal, comes what may be termed the logical next step. On their fifth studio album “Pulsar”, the band demonstrates better than ever their talent at combining powerful Staccato-Riffs and extravagant solo musings with electronic sound textures and listener-friendly melodies.

2016 sees Counter-World Experience creating more material utilizing the band members’ shared interest in science fiction. Pulsar consists of 11 futuristic sounding compositions, which were named after stars. The modern metal sound of the band was mixed with electronic elements such as sequencers.

The guarantor for the band won´t lose its ties to the jazz world is bassist Sebastian Hoffmann, who surely has a playing rank as one of the finest musicians in the German Jazz scene. His improvisatory solos, combined with his fluid bass lines, act much as a counterweight to the bands harder metal parts.

Counter-World Experience is proud of featuring some highly acclaimed guest musicians on “Pulsar”. Beside fretless bass legend Steve Di Giorgio (Testament, Sadus, Ex-Death) on the song "Alpha Serpentis" there is an appearance of drum magician Hannes Grossmann (Blotted Science, Ex-Obscura, Ex-Necrophagist) on "Cygnus". Trumpet player Chrisitian Meyers and fretless guitar virtuoso Fountainhead (Ex-Obscura) add even more colors to the record.

As per the band´s previous studio album, “Music for Kings”, the production values on the new CD cannot be underestimated or underappreciated: recorded at Light Mountain Berlin and mastered at the renowned Studio Pauler Acoustics, the production gives the songs the necessary balance between power, transparency and depth. In addition, “Puslar” benefits from clever graphic design and thorough booklet notes.

„Rockpalast“ was probably the most important and influential TV-format for Rockmusicin the last quarter of the 20th century. Many European countries hooked in „Live“, when it started with the words: German Television proudly presents!

Many awesome concerts were released through MIG-Music on DVD and CD during the last years. It’s time to resume with this spectacular double-CD. Impossible to catch all the impact and meaning of „Rockpaölast“ in a compilation – although anyone can get an impress of importance and consequences of this outstanding series of real Live-performances.

Definitely MIG-Music will go on in raising treasures from this fund, working on it to release it in the best possible quality.

Roy Buchanan - Wayfaring Pilgrim

Evolving slowly but deliberately over the course of each album side, “Timewind” has been deemed an electronic version of an Indian raga. It resembles in many ways a longer variation of the third track from Tangerine Dream's classic 1974 album Phaedra, "Movements of a Visionary", but it remains a transitional work somewhere between the Krautrock of Schulze's earlier output and the Berlin School character of his following efforts. The intention of “Timewind” was to invoke a timeless state in the listener.

Both track titles are references to the nineteenth-century composer Richard Wagner, Bayreuth is the Bavarian town where Wagner had an opera house built for the first performance of his massive Ring Cycle. Wahnfried is the name of Wagner's home in Bayreuth in the grounds of which he was buried in 1883. It is also a pen-name used by Schulze himself.

In the year of the Aswad ROCKPALAST concert a film had its premiere in the British cinemas, which showed the living conditions of Jamaican UK immigrants including the confrontations with the police and the National Front as a narrative movie. It was called “Babylon” and was the pendant to Jamaicas “The Harder They Come”. Originally Babylon was co-financed by the BBC, they though resigned their support because the topic became to controversial. The plot was so explosive, that at the London premiere Blacks and Whites had to enter to the hall through separate entrances. The main actor of Babylon was born in Guyana and called Brinsley Forde. He was the lead singer of a band from western London founded 1974 in the Ladbroke Grove area together with drummer Angus Gaye alias “Drummie Zeb” and three further musicians, who already weren’t with them on stage in Cologne anymore. The band’s name is Arabic and was meant as a statement: Aswad – black!

When Aswad played the Rockpalast recording at the Studio-B of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk nowbody expected them to become pop stars in the future, yet. At this time they still were part of the London punky reggae party, which Lee Perry initialized with a Bob Marley song, on which the 18 year old Drummie Zeb did the drumming. Aswad, as well as Steel Pulse and Matumbi, joined the coalition of British underdogs against the upcoming Thatcherism and played together with punk bands in the line-up of the Rock Against Racism campaign in universities, youth centers and clubs throughout the island.

The Rockpalast concert shows the Band in an early stage, as they only already released two of their about 30 albums: influenced by punk, raw and untamed, years before they rose to be one of the most important reggae bands from Great Britain next to Steel Pulse. - Helmut Philipps (September 2016)

32 years after the release of their last studio album (Graublau, 1985) the Krautrock veteran Bröselmaschine is back with a phenomenal new album. Diverified, soulful  and skillful the formation around guitar guru Peter Bursch is presenting the new songs. In June 2014 the remarkable debut from 1971 was voted by the New York music blog Pigeons & Planes on rank 9 of the most important Krautrock albums.
The new album Indian Camel with female singer/model Liz is again an odor signature for eternity.
Featuring famous comedian, multi-instrumentalist and former band member Helge Schneider on saxophone and Nippy Noya on percussions.

Peace Of Heaven

The performance on 15 March 1986 at the Grugahalle in Essen captured on DVD1 was the beginning of the tour in support of Big Country’s third album “The Seer”, and saw the band performing material from their first three albums. Particularly impressive is the consummate musicianship, from Brzezicki’s complex drumming to Butler’s rock-solid but fluid and imaginative bass. Overlaid with the intricate but immensely powerful six-string work from Adamson and Watson.

By 1991 at the September Rockpalast gig at the Biskuithalle in Bonn on DVD2 the commitment of the band to the enthusiastic audience is evident, and while the sound of the band had moved, at least on the new material, towards something less overtly Scottish, the joy and inclusiveness of the performance was and is, as ever, thrilling.

There are only a few German rock bands that deserve the title legendary, and EPITAPH is one of them. 
Founded in 1969, the band wrote music history in the 1970s. EPITAPH was the first german rock band to tour the USA (several times), producing their legendary 1974 Outside The Law in Chicago.
After TV appearances on the top German musicshows Beat Club and Rockpalast,  EPITAPH was soon a household name. Tours with Joe Cocker, RoryGallagher, Golden Earring and ZZ-Top, and numerous festival appearances made EPITAPH one of the most popular German cult rock bands.Over the last 50 years, the band has released 16 studio and live albums. And if you add the digital re-releases, that’s a total of 21 albums.
The brand new rock album Long Ago Tomorrow will be released in April 2019. EPITAPH starts celebrating their 50th anniversary.with an amazing album including catchy rock songs as well as powerful ballads.

Andreas Vollenweider stands for sold out tours worldwide in auditoriums like Carnegie Hall or Radio City Music Hall in New York, Universal Amphitheatre Los Angeles, Palladium in London, NHK Hall in Tokyo or Town Hall in Sydney. He has released 18 albums from 1980 to the present day and has sold more than 15 million physical records. Grammy Award, Latin Grammy and World Music Award as well as other Grammy nominations, most recently in 2007, stand for his unique success. In 2012 he received the Swiss Music Award in the category Outstanding Achievement for his "continuing life's work".

In 2015, Vollenweider develops a special music for a research project of the Neonatology Department of the University Hospital of Geneva. The focus is on the massive developmental problems of premature births and the question of what sound and music could do to support them. In its January 2019 issue, the National Geographic Magazine described the surprisingly great success of the project as "one of the 12 innovations that will revolutionize the future of medicine".

2020: After almost forty years of successful musical creation, Andreas Vollenweider dares to embark on a new, great adventure - his first novel! 450 pages, which will be released in a print edition and digitally as an e-book. It will also be released as an audio book with lots of music, read by Christoph Gaugler. And in addition the album, inspired by the theme of the novel, on CD, vinyl and of course digitally, the first work of a musical trilogy: "Quiet Places". Quiet, contemplative music, subtle, touching and yet powerful and dynamic, with Isabel Gehweiler, cello, and Walter Keiser, drums.

Als die Rock-Musik auf dem europäischen Kontinent laufen lernte, waren Autor Beat Hirt und Musiker Tommy Fortmann vorne dabei. Hirt als Ideengeber und Mitbegründer der Jugendzeitschrift „Pop“ (später „Pop/Rocky“) während Fortmann der Zeit mit seiner Kult-Band Demon Thor musikalisch vorauseilte. Den beiden Schweizern gelang es, für ihr ambitioniertes Musical-Projekt „Tell“ Alexis Korner zu begeistern. Er war das Urgestein des englischen Rhythm’n’Blues. Auch Udo Lindenberg signalisierte „alles klar!“ und stieg an Bord. Die Aufnahme-Sessions fanden im Frühjahr 1977 statt. Weitere Gesangsparts übernahmen u.a. die Sängerin Jack Carter, Romy Haag sowie Schlagerstar und Teenie-Idol Jürgen Drews.

Auch die mitwirkenden Sessionmusiker kamen aus der ersten Reihe deutsch/schweizerischer Rockprovenienz: Armand Volker (später Produzent und Arrangeur von der Münchener Freiheit, Spider Murphy Gang, Johnny Logan, Nena u.v.a.) spielte Gitarre und Bass, ebenso Frank Diez (Atlantis, Peter Maffay, Eric Burden u.a.). Zusätzliche Gitarrenoverdubs kamen von Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions), am Schlagzeug saß der begnadete Curt Cress (Klaus Doldingers Passport, Atlantis, Snowball), die Keyboards steuerten Philippe Kienholz von der Schweizer Classic-Rock Band Tea sowie Kristian Schultze (Klaus Doldingers Passport, Niagara, Snowball) bei.

„Tell!“ gab es seinerzeit nicht nur auf Vinyl, sondern war auch ein Bühnen-Projekt. Finanziert wurde die Produktion durch die „Tell Musical AG“, die eigens dafür gegründet wurde. Zu deren Aktionären gehörten u.a. Freddy Burger, Jürg Marquard und Udo Jürgens. Die „Tell!“-Uraufführung fand am 31. Juli 1977 in Zürich statt. Der Schweizer Presse war das Vorhaben jedoch nicht geheuer. Sie verriss fast kollektiv die Bühnenversion. In der deutschen Presse beurteilten die Kritiker das Musical etwas anders: „Wilhelm Tell, der in Jeans auftritt, es mit der schönen Stauffacherin treibt und mit den Eidgenossen auf dem Rütli Krach kriegt, ist als herrlicher Ulk angekommen.“ (Hamburger Abendblatt, 3.8.1977) „Die salopp-schnodderige Tell-Entstaubung will eine Attacke auf den historisch-heroischen Tiefgang sein.“ (Münchner Merkur, 4.8.1977) „Fortmanns Musik, zwischen Neil Diamond und Zarathustra, Soul-Elementen und Rock-Rhythmen, ist intelligent komponiert und anspruchsvoll. Sie kommt an.“ (Die Welt, 3.8.1977) „Die Choreografie riss das Publikum förmlich von den Stühlen. Der Discotheken-Sound fetzte durch den Holzbau.“ (Kieler Nachrichten, 6.8.1977)
Wie oft jedoch das Musical aufgeführt wurde, ist nicht mehr nachvollziehbar.

Das Musical „Tell!“ nach Friedrich von Schillers gleichnamigen Drama über den Schweizer Nationalhelden ist ein Stück Zeitgeschichte und eine musikalische  Zeitreise zurück in die 1970-er Jahre zugleich, von durchaus hohem Unterhaltungs- und Erinnerungswert, irgendwo zwischen Rock,  Schlager und dem Munich Disco Sound.
