El Extravagante is a Chilean artist with a big passion for experimental electronic music and synthesizers but at the same time a huge folklore and tropical rhythms fan & collector.

A world nomad that has just arrived to his new base in France, but has lived and shared lots of music in Australia and Canada as well. Plus traveling and playing in many places like Santiago, Berlin, Paris, Montréal, Toronto, Barcelona, Melbourne, Vienna, Lima and many more!

Behind the artist, Felipe Nadeau is a Culture & Arts manager who is also the co-director and founder of @cosmovisionrecords (along Don Mescal), a collaborative and multicultural label & collective that opens its doors to many new and old artists all over the world.

Guest Mix #51: El Extravagante (Cosmovision Records)

This one has been in the works for a while but didn't actually make it out in 2021 but hey, what does the month or even the year matter anymore? This is a series for what was and well, 2021 -2022 has been pretty wild for the world (aren't they all lately?), oscillating between hope and heartbreak. This mix somehow tries to capture that. 

I would like to say a big thank you to all the people that shared music they found beautiful, quite a few tracks made it into this mix, as always in new contexts, different speeds, pitches and carefully folded with another track. Thank you for listening

In case you wondered, the art is a beautiful woodcut by Ukrainian-American artist Jacques Hnizdovsky (https://hnizdovsky.gallery). Hnizdovsky fled Ukraine in 1929 as a fourteen-year-old and spent most of his life in the US, becoming known for his woodcuts which often depicted flora and fauna, inspired by hours spent watching the animals at the Bronx zoo and Botanical Garden.

"If trees, plants and animals were originally only my second love, I found so much beauty in them, that they became my first.... I found complete harmony with them."

Dubs between the future and past - different sides of Dubranec

A norse gael blows, roots strong and deep, tall stands the oak tree, we sway until we sleep...

I began compiling music for this mix over 7 years ago. It started as a faint calling, to gather a mix of slow irish airy mysticism which had always haunted me. The more i listened, the more i realised i had only been scratching the surface. As the years went on it became a journey of rediscovery and a journey of coming home. Born and raised on the island of Ireland, I left eagerly when i was 21 never really feeling quite part of the culture growing up. Now some 15 years later i increasingly feel the urge to re-connect with this heritage i am so fortunate to have.
And upon travelling to Norway, i felt compelled to include music from the Nordic traditions also, feeling so at home in these lands and just as so with it's music. Thank you to all the wonderful musicians for keeping the fire burning. And thank you to these lands i love so well, harbours of hearts, eternal source of wonder... 

Home is in the mountains, our heart is by the sea,
and wherever those two shall meet, you will find us joyfully..

MCT-03 - Nicola Cruz - Mystics of the Andes

One of the catalysts for this whole project has been the work of El Búho. I was already familiar with his production and remix work (for the uninitiated check out his mesmerising remix of Chancha Via Circuito - Sueno en Paraguay) when I stumbled across his ‘’Roots & Rhythms’’ podcasts. I was blown away. He was compiling, on such a regular basis, a vast range of beautiful music and sharing it with the world. I hoped that I could too help share the music that I love and support these amazing artists.

Unsurprisingly El Búho was one of the first people I contacted about contributing to the series, so it is with great pleasure that I am now able to present to you his Métron Musik Mixtape. It’s as smooth and peaceful a journey as it is a beautiful and triumphant rural adventure across many sonic worlds, finding it’s final peak at the very last moments with an outstanding unreleased track of his own. Inspired by the mystical notion of musical nirvana, it’s a vivid depiction of a small part of the sonic universe, but one that feels very much at one with his impressive output to date.

Producer, Luthier and Co-Founder of Shika Shika Collective, Barrio Lindo is a well know name in the Southamerican new wave, and his work is an encounter between southamerican traditional music and downtempo electronics full of organic sound, traditional instruments and colorful soundscapes. Arpeggios, melodies and groovy drums fill this landscape across the Andes mountains and the afro tropical heritage of South America.
